what I've been watching (and reading)
1. Zettai kareshi drama Ep 1. With the awesome one-time-only softsubs.
Everyone is so cute. Aiba Saki is the perfect cute Japanese girl, Mokomichi is way tall, and Mizushima has gained some weight and no longer bears such a strong resemblance to my ex-boyfriend from college. Now I can enjoy his kakkoi-ness without angst.
Looks like a lot of fun, even though I'm not a Watase fan and I didn't really like the manga (though my son is a fan).
Maya Miki as the bartender ftw!
If only Mokomichi's neck didn't appear to be wider than his head so much of the time.
2. Itazura na kiss anime ep 1 & 2: I like this, even though I usually detest "dumb girl wins over supersmart guy with incredible cuteness" scenarios. I mean, she is cute. And for some reason I identify with her a little, even though in reality I bear a much closer resemblance to supersmart guy. Love makes us all stupid, I suppose.
3. Special A anime ep 1: It was a bad idea to watch this right after Itazura na Kiss as there are a lot of superficial resemblances. And there is the Ouran High School stuff too (the tea! the baked goods!).
However, it's much more stylish than Itazura, especially the awesome SD effects:

While I was being a excellent if forgetful mom at camp I read vols 2-4 of Old Boy (awesome is all I can say, I want to see the movie now) and vol 1 of Yagyu Ninja Scrolls (not so enthusiastic as I don't really enjoy the genre of ugly villains and OTT cruelty). Next up: the rest of Mail and 5-8 of Old Boy.
