It appears I accidentally pre-ordered TWO copies of Fruits Basket 19. I think this happened with 18 as well. Oops. Well, at least chibi-T and I can each have our own copy.
Today T's friend L's mom suddenly emailed me and asked if T could come over, so we arranged that and then to meet at the movie theater to see "Horton Hears a Who," which had some good moments. Well, my favorite parts occurred when Jim Carrey got a bit Robin Williams-like and when the animation of Whoville looked exactly like a page of Seuss drawings come to life. Otherwise it was a bit of a snore.
It was nice to have a bit of time alone in the middle of the day on a weekend with P. It was worth the $30 car service ride (r/t with tip) to drop T at L's. And the $20 for the movie tickets. And then of course T wanted to go to B&N to buy manga (another $20).
Today is day 2 without Diet Coke or red wine, my staple beverages. I've been tortured lately by acid reflux (mega heartburn) which also makes my asthma worse (the reflux gets into your bronchial tubes). It got bad really quickly and I went from OK to unable to swallow without a coughing and wheezing fit, plus the pain was keeping me up, all despite my consumption of OTC anti-reflux meds (more than just maalox. I'm sophisticated about this; it runs in my family--my dad was hospitalized for it a few times, and my mom and one sister both take rx drugs for it). It was really making me insane so I decided to take the drastic step of actually changing my diet. Now I can eat rice and drink mineral water and have plain steamed veggies and protein (egg white, chicken breast, lean beef, fish, low fat cheese). Argh. But even with the changed diet and the meds, I am still having trouble with the reflux, so I've got to keep on. In hopes that I can someday return to my carefree days of slurping diet coke and guzzling merlot. Besides, wine is supposed to be good for you! (I know there's no excuse for diet coke ...)
I totally loved Binbo Danshi/Bombee Men (I don't know why it has two titles) even without the subs. Shun is so great as this very physical, earthy, very emotional guy. It's such a refreshing change from his princely or cerebral or withdrawn characters his been playing. I guess it didn't get very good ratings and it's only 9 epis, but the cast is SO good and it's a lot of fun to watch. I know I'm missing a lot since my Japanese is poor but at least I got a screen cap of Shun is an ugly scarf
I just don't get it. He's been wearing all these bright bright colors and suddenly he's wearing this scarf made of leather triangles crocheted together. And it's kind of girly too.
That round thing to the right is the top of the policeman's hat. Shun is a lot taller than him.
Lastly I wish to pimp the je_podcast. I think they have their own community. I have only managed to listen to the latest one, but I want to go back and listen to the previous 3 (there have been 4 so far) because, in addition to recent JE news, they discuss old doramas! This time it was Kurosagi, but before that it's Stand UP! What a worthwhile endeavor.
