Finally got my internet working again. Turns out, there's this thing called "Internet Protocol", and computers need it. Who knew? And thanks Jacob for finding the CD from Bellsouth, of all people, which finally found the problem and told me how to fix it (after consulting the trouble shooter only to be told that the device was working properly.) Anyhoo. Also, this Pandora thing is rocking my socks majorly. Mmmmm, internet.
