I was debating if I should get Darci that medical alert bracelet or not for the peanut allergy (her doc suggested it yesterday at her annual check up), but I put off making a decision as I've got this big test tomorrow so I'm sitting here doing practice quizzes. The last question I had was:
A nurse is planning to provide teaching to a client who is allergic to peanuts. Which of the following is the highest priority instruction that the nurse should include in the teaching plan?
- Inform other health care providers of the allergy.
- Wear a medical alert identifier.
- Carry an emergency anaphylaxis kit.
- Read food labels.
well the correct answer is carry an emergency anaphylaxis kit, as that is the highest priority. All our questions have multiple right answers but you have to choose the MOST right answer (it's quite annoying). After you choose your answer you can click the other options to see what the rationale is, and when you click "wear a medical alert identifier" it says as rationale "it is important that the client wear a medical alert identifier, but this is not the highest priority" so apparently it is important. maybe I should get Darci a bracelet after all..... (or am I reading too much into this?)
It's just funny that I'm debating about if I should get her a medical alert bracelet or not and this question comes up....with peanuts.... I was kind of thinking peanut allergy wasn't super important in case of emergency type info (unless the emergency was due to peanuts) because it's not in any meds and wouldn't really affect the medical care she received.
I suppose I'll be ordering a bracelet for her to wear........
