Background
Faramir is taken from the book Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, and somehow I doubt I need to explain a whole lot more than that. If you do, I'll happily refer you to
these links because there's a
lot to say. I'm lifting Faramir from before the book, about 2 years prior to Bilbo's Farewell Party. It's the year 2999 in the Third Age and Faramir is now 16 years old.
What does this mean exactly? Well, in Middle-earth Sauron has been building up his strength and he's openly declared himself to have returned to Mordor. Gondor's borders are constantly put to the test as Sauron's servants lead skirmishes against the kingdom. It won't be for another 20 years however until Sauron finally attacks Minas Tirith. So for now, things aren't as dire as they could be.
Now onto the boy himself...
Appearance
Here was one with an air of high nobility such as Aragorn at times revealed, less high perhaps, yet also less incalculable and remote: one of the Kings of Men born into a later time, but touched with the wisdom and sadness of the Elder Race.
I'm sinning against the books and I'll be using David Wenham as PB for Faramir just like in the movies (even if he isn't from the movies and I cringe when I think of what they did to him there). It's at odds with the book where he's described as having raven hair and grey eyes. I know, I know. I'm just too lazy to turn down the pretty that's given to me.
On Faramir
He is bold, more bold than many deem; for in these days men are slow to believe that a captain can be wise and learned in the scrolls of lore and song, as he is, and yet a man of hardihood and swift judgement in the field. But such is Faramir. Less reckless and eager than Boromir, but not less resolute.
Faramir doesn't come with an instruction guide like my other boy. He's slow to anger, doesn't like dispute and is kind. So really, he should be easy to get along with. There will mostly be some culture shock. For everyone's sanity, I'm claiming that Westron (or Common Speech) is the same as English. So he'll understand what's being said, but he'll have to learn how to read because otherwise it would be too easy. He'll still tend to be rather formal and might sound old fashioned, but I'm confident that will fade as he's a fast learner. He still might end up calling girls Lady and might be surprised to see girls fighting, but then he's going to hook up with Eowyn eventually so he can definitely handle it.
There are no super powers here. Faramir is pretty smart, but other than that he's just your average human. He's a skilled fighter (he has to be), but he's actually more of a nerd. He loves learning things, loves books and prefers them to fighting, but he does what he has to. He's actually nobility, but he's not going to be putting on airs. He's very much down to earth and doesn't think himself above anyone. Actually, thanks to his dad constantly pointing out how much he sucks, his self esteem isn't all too high. Also, he's a frigging woobie.
And I think that's about it for the new boy. Now on to the old one:
Jacob Black:
- Is a werewolf, except for how he's not really but Smeyers only figures that out in the last book so they always call themselves werewolves.
- Since he's not really a werewolf, but more of a shapeshifter he can change whenever he pleases. His bite won't infect people and he's fully aware of what he's doing when he's a werewolf.
- Is 16 years old, but looks like he's mid-20s. It's a werewolf thing.
- Is about 6'9" now. It's another werewolf thing. And no, he doesn't get smaller when he changes into a wolf.
- Has short cropped black hair, dark eyes and a russet skin.
- Has a body temperature of 108.9°F, is way strong, fast and has healing abilities. Yep, werewolf thing. Actually, he's even stronger and faster when he's a werewolf.
- Is Native American (Quileute) and can be recognised as such.
- Has a temper, especially when it comes to vampires. He's extremely dangerous if he loses control.
- Most of the time, he's just a harmless puppy. Albeit a stubborn, at the edge of jackass one (and well over it too).
- Won't register on any precogs radars. Actually, he tends to make it impossible to see anything he's involved in.
- As a werewolf, he has a good sense of scent. He can smell if someone's a vampire (they stink) and other such things. I'm going with it that his sense is smell is quite similar to a wolf's, but unlike Angua or Firekeeper, he's still new at this and won't be as proficient in it as they are.
- Comes with Smelly OCD. If there's something Jake should smell about your character, let me know. Or if for some reason you'd rather he didn't, let me know too!
Jara:
- I live in Belgium in the OTT, that's GMT+1. I'm around after work and during weekends
- Sometimes a game distracts me, but feel free to poke me and I'll try to be good! Really!
- I'm fair game for any and all interactions. If you think you can use any of my characters in a plot, feel free to hit me on AIM to work something out.
- Or just hit me up on AIM. I can be found at FeedsPigeons.
- Also has three alumni provostsdog , cameronmitchell and light_a_spark .
- Was also lazy and copy pasted Jake's part.
- Doesn't believe in creepy spawn.
