for seulgi, all you need is a cute animal costume to get your way.
Dedication to a cause was, in Seulgi’s mind, the most important aspect in making it succeed. It didn’t matter how well formulated the ideas were, or how perfect the execution was, it only mattered how willing you were to commit to it.
And man was she willing.
Her juniors on the other hand, not so much.
“Unnie! This is so embarrassing! Please can we try something else?” Yerim’s voice is barely intelligible from where it’s muffled against the thick fabric of her bunny suit so Seulgi chooses to ignore her protests for now.
“As this club's founding members, we must do everything in our power to bring about its formal inclusion in the school’s official charter!” she announces, gesturing broadly amongst the three of them.
“Don’t you mean you want the school council to add ‘nap club’ onto the list so you have a reason to skip sixth period?” Sooyoung pipes up lazily from her perch on a desk, the hood of her puppy suit already pulled up over her head.
“Nap club? No no, this is the REM Awareness Club.” Seulgi spent all night working on the official name and she’s not going to let Sooyoung take that away from her.
“We’re a gathering of hard working and elite students who find importance in making sure the body’s natural circadian rhythm is followed,” she continues, following up with the well-rehearsed spiel she was going to give to the student council in a matter of moments.
Sooyoung doesn’t look convinced and Yerim only lets out another resigned whine.
“Have faith! Your dedicated club leader isn’t taking this lightly!”

“Kang Seulgi, is the student council a joke to you?”
Seulgi instinctively puts her hands up in a modest gesture, lowering her head slightly in a way she knows boosts the ego of just about every student council member.
“Of course not, President Kim! I have the utmost respect for our hardworking and esteemed student council,” she says, putting on her brightest smile.
The student council was one of the few student run organizations at their school to have its own permanent room and as such, was a pretty impressive place. The student council representatives sat in a large semi-circle while the official members sat at a long table in front.
This meeting was special because it was the spring enrollment for new clubs to be added to the school’s official list, which meant the benefit of having a dedicated club time.
President Kim, or Joonmyeon as his mother calls him, was a third year and student council president; smart, handsome, but a bit of tightwad and a stickler for rules and propriety.
Now that she had a moment to reflect, showing up in animal pajamas probably hadn’t been the smartest choice for making the student council believe they were serious about a nap club… ugh, the REM Awareness Club.
“Then why did you submit your clubs application and mission statement on green paper and in comic sans, of all fonts? And why did you show up in costumes?” he asks, waving said application in the air and, to Seulgi’s amazement and horror, it actually is green.
She hears muffled laughter from behind her and turns to see Sooyoung giggling in her sleeve. That brat.
“Ah, well….you see…” she trails off, not really knowing how to come out of this in a positive way and looks to the other student council members for some assistance.
Everyone else in the room seems to be getting a kick out of this or, alternatively, not paying attention at all. Seulgi turns her eyes back up front.
They land on the vice president; another senior who is cut from similar cloth as President Kim. Bae Joohyun is smart, insanely pretty and popular, but 100 times less boring.
“Just accept the application already and stop torturing her, you blowhard.” Joohyun breaks the awkward silence and grabs the green sheet from Joonmyeon, scribbling her signature of approval and shoving it back at him to do the same.
“You know this is all formalities anyway and the faculty won’t let us turn anyone away,” she adds, pointedly referring to the acceptance of the frog racing club from last falls club enrollment that still only has a total of two members, one of which is an actual frog.
Joonmyeon grumbles but signs as well and passes the form to the club secretary; a girl in Seulgi’s grade that she remembers is in the school’s chorus as well. The application is stamped with a more official looking seal than the situation probably warrants and added to the ever growing stack of accepted clubs to the side.
“Congratulations. Your club is now official,” Joonmyeon says, looking quite sour, but Joohyun is grinning prettily next to him and waves Seulgi forward.
She goes up, trying not to be too embarrassed as she can feel the stares of the room on her. Why did she think these pajamas were a good idea again?
When she gets close enough, Joohyun waves her in even more so that Seulgi has to lean slightly against the table. The older girl cups her hand around Seulgi’s ear and whispers lowly so that no one else can hear:
“Let me know when you’re first meeting is and I’ll stop by. I could always use a nap partner.”
Seulgi resists the urge to throw something at Sooyoung when she hears the younger girl’s obnoxious laughter and instead focuses on not letting the heat on her cheeks melt her into a puddle.
