Winter Wonderland Jared hates kids. Now, don't get him wrong, Jared loves kids. Okay, so, he was a walking oxymoron. Jared loves kids, always had and always will, it's just right now at this very moment, Jared really hates kids. They're all loud, boisterous, obnoxious and most importantly, completely rude and disrespectful. Of course, that's what Jared gets for working Tom's shift when he had begged and pleaded for Jared to take it, since this was the day of Mike's great-aunt's cousin's friend's birthday or something like it and they had to go to it. Jared snorts, thinking to himself that Tom probably just wanted to spend the day at home, kid free. It's bad enough that it's the Christmas season, but it's the first day that the Santa's are making their way to the malls, and the kids are absolutely going apeshit. They're running everywhere and grabbing everything, screaming their way to their parents or guardians, complaining when they can't get something and pretty plainly, giving Jared the worst headache of his life.
He would love to be able to just get up and walk away from the little snotnosed kids telling him what they want, but he still has an hour of his shift left and he really needs the money in order to buy Jensen's Christmas gift. Jared smiles at the mere thought of Jensen, hoping to God he can get the money in time for Christmas, and therefore get the gift. He remembers the look Jensen had on his face when Jared had left for his shift, a look of sadness and amusement over the fact that Jared had been complaining about having to come in on the first day and at the same time, there was some sort of happiness there that confused Jared, but he had just assumed that Jensen was going out to search for his own gift. His eyes roam the mall, seeing all the little kids with their families and he can't help but catch his eyes on a nice looking guy. He's got blond hair, looks to be a little shorter than Jared himself and has cowboy boots, which, if Jared wasn't completely in love with Jensen, yum! He's hugging this guy tightly, like a reunion and the guy kisses the attractive looking one, on the cheek but at the same time, pretty close to the mouth, too. The guy turns around and Jared feels his heart stop at the fact that the guy is fucking Jensen. The guy is his boyfriend Jensen, who just hugged another guy and got a fairly close kiss by said guy.
Jared feels his heart drop when he sees Jensen blush and look down at something the guy said, knowing immediately that that is Jensen's 'I'm to shy to flirt with you look but I really like you' and Jared can feel his heart breaking and yet the blood thrumming through his veins making him angry. Jared watches as the two guys walk, bumping into one another and he must have been staring for quite a while because suddenly there's a little boy in front of him tugging on his beard and Jared looks down to tell the kid to bugger off when he hears Jensen's voice.
“It was nice, seeing you again, I mean.” Jared feels crushed, unsure of how to react and when he looks up, he notices that Jensen and the guy are right there and that the guy is actually attractive, but surely not enough to cause an affair. The kid pulls on his beard again and Jared just wants to scream at the kid to leave him alone when the attractive asshole that Jensen's cheating on him with beats him to it.
“Tyler, enough!” And suddenly the kid stops and runs away towards his father, holding his hands in an 'up' signal before speaking.
“How was your date with the guy daddy?” Jared's heart breaks at that and when Jensen laughs and the guy laughs and none of them rebut it, Jared just wants to run the fuck away. The two of them closer when the kid starts saying about how he wants to go on Santa's lap and,
“Please daddy, can your boyfriend put me on his lap?” Jensen laughs before just nodding and Jared feels like puking and crying all at once and he spots Tom in his own Santa suit, finally here for his own shift even though it's only been a half hour and he looks at Tom then Jensen, and Tom can see immediately what's going on and starts making his way over, but slowly, since, yeah, kids. Jensen's close to reaching his lap and Jared jumps up, his eyes wide and hurt. He sees Jensen look at him, confused and fuck, Jared has to get the fuck out of here.
“Yeah, I'll--” he starts, but his voice isn't his Santa voice and he watches as Jensen's eyes go wide with shock and Jared just begins to feel more anger and hardens his voice before finishing his sentence --”I'll be back kiddo, gotta go talk to some spare elves,” he says, rushing out of the way so that Tom can make his entrance and he can go home and pack his bags and run the fuck away.
“Jared! Jared, wait! God damn it, Jared, STOP!” He hears Jensen but he's too upset and hurt and angry at Jensen and just can't, so he keeps running, straight to his car. He's shaking so badly that he drops his keys and as he goes to pick them up, he lets out a shuddering gasp and before he can do anything, he lets himself fall to his ass, too upset to even get up and drive. After a few minutes, he can feel footsteps coming up behind the car and he wipes away the tears that had somehow formed while he was out here and knows instantly that it's Jensen, hesitant to say anything at all.
“Go back to your boyfriend, Jensen,” He says, jealousy and hurt all in his voice, which shakes as he says that. He hears Jensen sigh before he sees him sit down in front of him and he doesn't want this.
“He's not my boyfriend, Jay. You're my boyfriend.” Jared snorts at that, anger making him illogical.
“Sure didn't see you disagreeing when the kid called you his boyfriend, or when he kissed you, or held onto you a little too long during a hug.” Jensen sighs at that, runs his fingers through his hair before looking straight at Jared.
“He's my ex-boyfriend, Jared. Ex-boyfriend. We bumped into one another here and when he held me a little to long and tried kissing me, I told him I was in love with someone else, that he was so far into my past that the person I loved was the person for me to spend my future with.” Jared looks up at Jensen through his tear-soaked eyes and he can't find any dishonesty in them. He opens his mouth to fight back when Jensen closes it with his hands, wiping the tears away from Jared's face.
“I'm serious Jared. I love you, not the other guy.”
“Then why didn't you tell that kid--” Jensen laughs at that, pulls Jared up from his sitting position and holds him close.
“Because it's what he calls all of his Dad's friends, Jay. Even his female friends.” Jared's about to accept but he glares at Jensen, knows he saw no one with them. Jensen sighs before smiling at him.
“He told me, Jared. Look, I'm sorry okay, sorry I hurt you, even if I didn't mean to. I fucking love you okay, I love you to the - damn it Jared, just trust me. I love you and I'm not going to ever hurt you, ever. Not that way.” Jared nods his head, looking into Jensen's eyes and not seeing any sort of lie there. He hears Jensen sigh before he's pulled towards Jensen, kissing him with such a fervour that he's shocked at first, and unsure if he wants to believe Jensen well enough to kiss him but after a few minutes of not doing so, Jensen punches him in the shoulder and tells him to fucking stop being a jackass and kiss back and god, Jared has no idea how he could ever doubt Jensen and he's kissing back, and Jensen's moaning and next thing he knows, Jensen's pushing him away with a smile on his face.
“Let's go home, Jay.”
