never mind the dark knight: adam west IS my batman

eruthros and I have recently acquired, and have been playing, the LEGO BATMAN game for the Wii (after having enjoyed LEGO STAR WARS so very much) and it's fabulous! The colours and the outfits and the cutscenes are all totally calling back to 60s-era Adam West-styles Batman, which makes me SO HAPPY.

So then we were motivated to rewatch Batman Forever, the Val Kilmer one with Chris O'Donnell as Robin and Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones as The Riddler and Two-Face. Can I tell you guys how much better this film was than anything Christian Bale has ever done while wearing black rubber? Because, seriously. Batman Forever is such an indulgent and delightful hingepoint between the Dark Knight of the Michael Keaton films and the amazingly camp and colourful Adam West callbacks of the later George Clooney film. I give it hugs.

Because, friends, it's just SO NICE to see a queer film, like Batman Forever, that's about claiming bisexuality as a valid sexual identity and lifestyle choice. I love how, at the end, Batman gets to realise that his attraction to hot young male acrobats and his attraction to hot lady psychiatrists are equal, and that both are valuable and a part of him. I'm just so glad that the filmmakers went with that plotline! It was pretty groundbreaking, IF you ask me.
