yes, absolutely - I really do think that's why I like him on his knees, too, in fic. It's a way of taking the hot sexualization out of the context of noncon and putting it into a context of desire - which is why, I think, D/s fics featuring John as the s are most likely to be from his POV, or to focus (for example) on his masochism rather than his partner's sadism. I agree completely - I want to, if nothing else, complicate the sexual power dynamics as they're presented on the show, to at least make John feel conflicted about them.

And I was ready to agree with you on the idea that the characters have gotten uncomfortable with the pure intellectuality of the Ancients, but . . . actually, now that I think about it, I think that's a fanon interpretation of a couple of small, ambiguous canon events. John has that one comment in The Tao of Rodney about how the Ancients were screwed up (and Elizabeth disagrees). And . . . what else? Epiphany is about how the Ancient-wannabes can't just meditate their way to ascension, and need to, whatever, face their fears, but the goal is still ascension. Elizabeth's goal, the Replicators' goal, is still ascension - even if the Ancients are questioned, which I think they only ever are by accident ("why would they make the replicators?" "uhhhhh....") ascension really isn't. Daniel on SG-1 argues with Oma over the Ancients' non-interference policy, but not over ascension itself. I think minds are still privileged extremely - why else is it an acceptable and humane solution to put the robot chick from Outcast into cold storage forever and ever?

So, I don't think the show has really shown discomfort with the way the Ancients prize minds over bodies.
