so, here's a question.

so, I'm writing this story about the Ancients, set 15 000 years before the events of SGA. And it's going along really well, right now, which is making me quite happy - all of a sudden the ideas and the structure are just spinning out in front of me, which is amazing - but I have this problem.

the problem is: when I write, I like to have appropriate music playing (sometimes) to put me in the right state of mind. Sometimes I will even put one song on repeat and listen to it 50 or 100 times in the course of writing a story (my neighbours love me). But I mean . . . what kind of music does one play to invoke the Ancients, formal and stiff and obsessed with Ascension and weird? I should perhaps try something in a foreign language so that I don't understand the words. Or some sort of experimental-instrumental, maybe (I've put on some classical music, and had some success with Mozart's Divertimento in B flat major, and The Well-Tempered Clavier and so on, but my taste in classical music tends towards the Romantics, who are way too passionate for the Ancients).

ANYWAY, SO, I am here asking for recs. It's easy to come up with songs that remind us of John or Rodney, but songs that invoke the Ancients is . . . harder. So if you can think of any, please let me know (and, if inclined and able, share an mp3 or two with me!) It's for a good cause.

sga, ask the internet
