today is saturday and I am reccing vids, therefore it is vid rec saturday.
because today I discovered for the first time a White Collar vid that no one had told me about before! GUYS! I expect news about OT3 White Collar vids. Instead I had to hear about this from
veni_vidi_vids??? Shame and horror. ANYWAY, THOUGH: the vid is called
Handle With Care, by
china_shop, and it made me go awwwwww both times I watched it today. How much do I love these three? I spent the whole vid going, "Oh, Peter! I love Peter best! Wait . . . except for Neal, Neal is amazing, I love Neal best. OMG ELIZABETH I love her best of all! . . . hi Peter! I love you more than anyone!" &c. It's beautifully put together.
Also via
veni_vidi_vids, I watched today
this Janeway/Seven vid (youtube link), which is set to Summer Nights from Grease, of all things. But it sort of works, surprisingly, and there's some really great clip choice . . . most of all, it reminds me of how much I ADORED both Janeway and Seven, back in the day. Sigh. I ship them so hard. I should do a Voyager rewatch sometime.
AND! All this vid reccing reminds me! The other day I was hanging out with
raven, and she and I were geeking out majorly about Old Who (which probably bored
livrelibre and
eruthros to tears) and I was reminded that I know of several really lovely Old Who vids. New Who vids are easy to find and well recced, but Old Who vids are a little harder to come by. And vids that combine the two (my favourite!) are rarer still.
What About Everything and/or
What About Everything II, by
calapineCalapine makes TONS of Old Who (and New Who!) vids, and three of these six recs are for vids of hers. Mostly because she has such love for the old (and new!) series, and it comes through in her vids. A lot of her vids are Four/Romana, which isn't my pairing at all, but if you like that sort of thing, there you go. The deal with these is that she remade What About Everything, so it's not two separate vids really; as far as I can tell the main differences between the first and second versions of the vid are a) some remastering and b) some removal of clips. As a consequence, the second version is a bit slower and more focused; maybe more coherent overall. But I prefer the first version, because it has a wider range of clips, I think. This is a great "AHHHH DOCTOR WHO IS HUGE!" vid - it just makes me happy, the way it lets me wallow in the huge delightful history of the franchise. Perfect choice for introducing Old Who to a New Who fan.
Welcome to the Black Parade by
calapine Like almost all vids to this song, this vid is a bit too long; I've never seen a vid to this song that I didn't think should be a minute shorter. But it's still pretty fun, and does a fabulous job of making connections (like the previous vid) between New and Old Who. I think a lot of folks who haven't seen Old Who don't realise how incredibly referential and tropic New Who really is; Calapine's vids are a great reminder of that. I think I love this vid solely for the moment with Four in a silly Gallifreyan hat for "took me into the city." It overwhelms me with how awesome it is.
Run With Us, by
calapineThis is my favourite of the three Calapine vids I'm reccing! Let me tell you why: ACE AND SEVEN. SEVEN AND ACE. Those two make up one of my all-time favourite Doctor/Companion pairs. This vid shows off how tough and gorgeous Ace is, as well as how charming and adorable Seven is. And how together they are cheerfully, strollingly, explosively saving the world all over the place. PS this vid makes me realise that there's a serious dearth of Ace/Seven nose fetish fic.
On Your Wings by
lcsbananaAnother Ace/Seven (or Ace and Seven) vid, a bit darker than Run With Us. This really showcases the emotional intensity that these two face together; it's beautifully edited, and makes you feel the violence and unease working against Seven's dapper affability and Ace's stubborn power. Much more Ace-focused than Run With Us, following her emotional journey(s). ACE!
Take On Me by
greensilverThis premiered at Club Vivid at Vividcon this year, and was definitely a standout for me. It captures the excitement and whirlwind and joy of being with the Doctor, and the inevitable sadness and nostalgia, too. It makes my heart fill to bursting. Another Old + New Who vid, and another one that makes some gorgeous connections between the two.
So Happy Together by
martoufmartyDoes anyone have a link for this? I have it downloaded, but since I downloaded it it looks like the vidder's site went down, imeem went down, and the vidder lost their external hard drive? Such a shame, because this, my friends, is a Two/Jamie vid. Two! And Jamie! Having adventures and touching way way way more than dudes on tv would touch these days, or possibly also more than dudes on tv would've touched in those days. Classic slash vid, quite adorable, and reminds me of how delightful and playful Two is. Jamie is I think the longest-running companion of ever? And he's wonderful, seriously. I'm not sure I would've gone with that song, myself, but the vidder makes it work.
Sigh, now I more than ever want to make my triptych of Doctor Who vids set to country music. Why am I cursed to think only in HUGE PROJECTS? It can't be a thirty second vid about one episode, nooooo. But I really wish I had the time to go through all the source (go through ALL the source?!?!?!?) and make myself a Who database of clips so that I could put Old Who in vids whenever I wanted to. I just love it so much.
Anyway, there you go: vid rec saturday.
