But before I do, let me say, whoever the sweet-hearted anon is who wrote that
absolutely adorable story in which John Sheppard and Jamie Hyneman share a hug, (
alternate AO3 link) you should step up and claim your right to fame! Are you afraid to identify yourself because you fear that then
toft and I will hound you incessantly until you full-on join Mythbusters fandom? Well, that's probably a legitimate fear, really. But, anyway, whoever you are, you're lovely.
Also before I get to follow friday: did you know did you know that today is
eruthros's birthday? IT IS! I am looking at her right now, where she's sitting on the futon eating Pocky For Men (a righteous gift from
chagrined) and she ttly looks a year older than yesterday. Independent confirmation. So you should shower her with gifts and accolades and stuff.
A third thing before Follow Friday: I am reading right now Kathryn Bond Stockton's The Queer Child, Or, Growing Up Sideways in the Twentieth Century, and it's SO FABULOUS, I already love her lots. It's queer theory, so not reaaaally meant for a general audience, but if you have a little background in feminism/queer theory/gender studies type stuffs it's pretty accessible. And it analyzes The Hanging Garden right off the bat!
AND NOW, FOLLOW FRIDAY:
I have been meaning to do this for ages. Today I have gotten round to it: hurrah. Here are some things/people that I follow, and that you might enjoy following too:
amplificathon - so much podfic! all the time! This is a community that's grown out of what was originally conceived (I think) as a one-time podfic challenge, and is now the beating heart of podfic fandom (along with the fab archive at audiofic.jinjurly.com). I love it so much! I love that people post recs for podfic now more and more, and that so many fandoms are represented.
dark_agenda - originally organized to get more characters of colour and non-Western sources written for Yuletide, Dark Agenda is now BACK and tending to the needs of the RemixRedux community. I am so excited that the folks behind this challenge are keeping this great idea going. I hope they take on many more fannish challenges in the future.
laurashapiro - vidding, reccing, squee, thoughtfulness, and did I mention VIDDING? Also she recently made a Aeryn Sun/Kara Thrace vid (!!!) which I haven't got round to reccing, so I'll sneakily rec it here. But that sort of tells you how awesome she is.
thuviaptarth - vidding, writing, really great posts about tv shows, fabulous tech vidding posts, and just all-around smartness.
ciderpress - in addition to being the source of some seriously excellent Psych squee and meta, ciderpress writes fabulous, thought-provoking, emotion-provoking posts on a whole host of subjects. Her posts often delightful, always smart, and always interesting. PLUS: Saving Face picspam, which, YES.
kanata - recs and reviews of fics, books, manga, and music - I blame kanata (at least in part) for the ridiculous number of open tabs I have in my firefox window. He just makes it all sound so good! Plus our tastes in fic tend to coincide, which is nice for me.
access_fandom - I adore this comm, which was created to talk about accessibility/disability issues in and around fandom, but which in reality casts a much wider net (or maybe it's just that fandom's net is always cast that wide). I get all kinds of interesting crunchy thinky posts from access_fandom, as well as kept up to date on how folks in fandom are talking about ablism issues in the news and on our favourite shows etc.
. . . okay, I'm terrible at follow friday. I love so many things! How do you choose? I ended up choosing some things at random. I hope they are helpful.
