So.
The second time. A year and a half later.
In a strange way, it didn't hurt as much as last time. You'd think it would, what with also not having the boy she'd considered a best friend gone as well. Those damn snowwood boys...There was closure. She had said all the things she had wanted to say, unlike the last time when she'd been mentally hitting herself all week about not saying anything. They had become intimate, although never levels which the book she had read last week would have been needed, but he'd seen her webbed toes...something very few people in school could even claim to know about. She had trusted him with many things and him, in turn.
But this was his big chance. Something that no one in their right mind would pass over. It was an honor, a privilege...
For a few hours, she pondered leaving with him. It surprised her that she gave it some thought. She cared for him, that much she knew. But then what? In life, there is love, but there is also one's self. And she knew she'd be a pile of miserable over there. That type of research, this wasn't who she was.
This was who he was.
They had talk about it politely. She could close her eyes and imagine it as an adult conversation. So much had changed during her last three years here. Even just last year, when she had made him that card...he had done a lot of her. He deserved at least that much. They exchanged words, hugs, even a kiss.
"I wanted to thank you...for teaching me how to feel..."
Then it was over. Just like that.
"Take these. I won't accept no for an answer or else I'm going to punch you"
Later that night, she was alone in her room, and the entire conversation repeated over in her head again. There wasn't screaming of thrown pillows. Just a mental replay as she idly toyed around with the new pair of goggles before leaving them on her work desk.
It would have been unfair to him if she hadn't cried.
So she did.
Much more softly than she had before, head bent to her desk.
It was strange however. Unlike last time...unlike last time, she didn't want the feelings to go away.
"Thank you...for being there.
...and goodbye for now."
She didn't know how long it had past before she was done, but then she realized what she had to do. There was someone else in the school who she needed to talk to who was probably even more devastated than she was.]

I'm sure you'll all find this out soon anyway from the RA's so whatever. Maxwell has been invited to go to Scotland for large rocks and sea dinosaur research as the Department Head Leader Researcher.

I'll be in my room for this weekend.
[However, those who may have seen her in the corridors might have noticed she is lacking her tell-tale earrings.]

Hey um...sorry about what happened with the whole punching you and everything.
[Private to Tony, unhackable]
...are you okay?
