I'm free! For one night only!

Jan 27, 2009 21:34

Sorry for my inactivity lately- planning how I was gonna write my essay did help, but not as much as I'd hoped. I finally finished it at 7:30 this morning and I was about 500 words over the maximum limit, decided to get a few hours sleep, then got up at 11:30 to edit. I only just managed to get it down to the maximum limit by 3:15, managed to find my memory stick, which was lucky because Helen and Ellis weren't around for me to scrounge one off, pegged it down to Western Bank, and then forgot to set the printer to single-sided. I really don't get this uni- they're always going on about helping the environment, yet they only accept essays that are double-spaced and single-sided. And you have to hand in two copies. So if you write a 7-page essay, you have to print off 26-28 sheets. It's 5p a sheet. And I had to print mine again, so I must have spent around £2 on printing. Which is an absolute bitch considering that the only reason I had to pay it at all is because my printer's an arse and won't work without the drivers, which I can't download. Agh, sucks arse!
But yeah, after a lot of running and a bit of panic, I managed to hand it in with abut two minutes to spare. My first essay of the year that's been in on time. If I was a better student, I'd be ashamed of that.

So I've been going pretty good on the treats today :-D
As soon as it was handed in, I went down to Interval for some pitta breads. Which is technically a bar snack, but it makes a decent lunch. Not as good as last year, when they came with a side salad and were practically a meal, but apparently Interval made quite a loss last year so they reduced the portion sizes. But yeah, then I went to the union shop. The offers were tormenting me again. M&Ms. Mini Eggs. CREME EGGS! I miss them. Fortunately, Hobnobs were buy one get one free, so that'll keep me going for a week or so at least. And some coconut cookies :-D
And they've built a Nisa on the way home, so I am now the owner of two bottles of wine for £3.99. I meant to drink about an entire bottle tonight, but I don't feel so much like it now.
I love Nisa. It's like a 24-hour Aldi with more students. There's hardly any soft drinks, and about three walls dedicated solely to alcohol. Amazing.
And then I just made myself chilli pasta because I didn't have time on Sunday, and it's probably the best I've ever made it.
SO I'M HAPPY!
Which makes a pretty big difference from yesterday.
Also, whatever anyone may say, it is perfectly possible to identify with the serial killer in a novel. I challenge anyone to read 'Perfume' without wanting to cry for Grenouille. The film, amazing tho it is, really doesn't get across how harrowing the ending is.
It's been ages tho since I really just enjoyed reading like that. I was just really engaged in the story and Grenouille as a character. It's honestly been so long since I just read a book and enjoyed it- I'd almost forgotten what that feels like the course had just sucked it out of it, even tho that feeling is the only reason I started this course in the first place, and the only reason that English Lit is the only thing I've been able to see myself studying since I was about 14. I'm actually looking forward to my revision for my exam now- just six days of reading books, highlighting things and making notes. And then I can just go into the exam, give it my all and be done with it.

I might write a bit tonight if I don't get too drunk. Tho I really want to get back into my original stuff again- I used to practically live for it, and considering that that's what I want to do for a career, the fact that it's fallen by the wayside is really sad. I was looking over a few of my old short stories last night, and one of them, I wrote it when I was about 16 or 17 or so, an odd thing called 'Mr Dark Come to Happyville', and I found that I still like it- all I could see wrong with it was a few wordings that looked clumsy. I need to do more, I had anidea ages ago, all stemming from one sentence- "You wake up in the cellar on the forty-third day"- and I've hardly done anything towards it.
I need to get on with my play as well. The last opinion I had on it was my A-Level drama teacher, and she said it was good, but needed to be twice the length.

Dan Nightingale was at the Last Laugh on Sunday, and I got his CD. The guy's brilliant. I'll bring it to London if anyone wants to hear him.
Speaking of London, I may not be able to get the weed- apparently the guy in the corner shop that smells of it doesn't sell. Sorry guys.
Also, Rose, if you still haven't seen Rocky Horror by then, I could bring that too. If I could get some weed, that'd be even better.

I made some random icons as well. Probably post them as well at some point.

Oo, another thing- I've been checking what's on in teh city this term, and the theatre looks amazing. 'An Inspector Calls' on 17th-21st March, which 've heard is really good. I remember one of my A-Level German teachers said it was his favourite play. And even better, THE TEMPEST on 21st-25th April! My favourite Shakespeare play! I've seen it once before and I loved it, and I can't wait to see how this production handles it. And for £9.50 each! There's Blood Brothers on 16th-28th Feb, one of the few musicals I can stand. I saw it when I was doing my drama GCSE, and I liked it a lot. And The Producers, and Little Shop of Horrors. And Swan Lake! I've never been to a ballet before, lol, but I'd quite like to.
There's no way I can afford all this.

Also, Lu, are you any more sure about Population on the 9th?
Or anyone else, for that matter.

Sooooo... yeah. It's my night off.
Happytiemz.
