My mum got me a few new cookbooks for when I go back to Sheffield (TOMORROW EEEEEEEE... but why did I think today was Thursday until about two hours ago?). One of them's really good- not many of the recipes are actually vegan, but can adapt them easily enough. And there's a curry recipe :-D I have an excuse to stink out the house with spices and Mum's giving me a blender! The only problem is coconut milk- I dunno how much that costs.
The other was kind of crap tho. I mean, I know they don't make that many vegan cookbooks because they're such a niche market (I know where to get them from but I can't afford them anyway... not that it really matters, because the internet provides), but most vegetarian ones are generally good for me. But this thing was called 'Virtually Vegetarian', which is one of those phrases that I ABSOLUTELY HATE.
You're either vegetarian or you're not, that's all there is to it.
FISH IS NOT VEGETARIAN.
CHICKEN IS NOT VEGETARIAN.
IF YOU EAT THESE AT ALL, YOU ARE NOT VEGETARIAN.
GET YOUR RECIPES OUT OF MY BOOKS.
Fucking pretentious want-to-use-the-label-without-compromising-our-pretentious-lifestyle TWATS.
(Yes, I'm aware of the hypocrisy in me complaining about pretentiousness- but there's pretentiousness, and there's pretentiousness.)
Okay, end rant.
In other news, I finally went round to Viki's today to give her the Christmas present that's been waiting in my house since Christmas. It was brilliant seeing her again- we talked about our courses, our Christmases, stand-up comedy... And then she showed me the short stand-up performance she did for one of her exams a couple of weeks ago. It was brilliant! It was only just over five minutes long, but she had me laughing so much. Her first line got cut off the video, unfortunately, but she mentioned how she knew that for someone with cerebral palsy, stand-up was kind of a misnomer, since she hasn't stood up since birth. She was fantastic. I know it's not something she's planning to go into, but she was so brilliant.
And it turns out that her tutor is a fan of Jason Cook, and showed videos of him in lectures! I'm amazed!
I'm thinking of having a go at stand-up, in that student competition they do every year. My idea would be to play on the internet addiction thing, say that I'm actually from the internet. It'll probably be a bit shit, but I'd like to have a go.
I haven't done any work today, so I'll have to do some later. I need to request my books from the library as well, to make sure I get them. Becuase it would be BEYOND AWFUL if I couldn't get hold of any.
I've also finally finished 'Green Grass, Running Water', so I can at least send Michael a decent plan that doesn't let slip that I'm only half way through the book. Eleven days before the 4000-word essay's due *facepalm*
Seriously, is it worth it?
But it is an amazing book- it's really wonderfully imaginative, and it's frickin' hilarious as well. Read it- thou shalt not regret.
My late More Joy Day's still a write-off as of yet. And if I haven't done any work, it's unlikely I'll let myself write fic or anything. Sorry.
