Remains of the day

I've just watched Persepolis, at last. It's a wonderful film- the story draws you in, and the bitterness of the tragedy is quite overwhelming. The animation is beautiful too- there's barely any detail in the characters' designs and their lines are all very clear and simple, but the intricacy of the symbolism is beautiful. And the way some of it is ( Read more... )

Down with Shell! Down with Shell!

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest.

Persepolis sounds wonderful - if I have any birthday money left over next time I happen upon a HMV, I might have to check it out.

Oh, dude, coffee is definitely one thing we disagree on. I can't get enough of the stuff. I have it black with about five sugars, just to double the rush. But please ignore the caffeine addict in the corner.

Strong and Northern - genius. Though, for some bizarre reason, what made me laugh even more was you saying you should have taken the picture 'straighter'. I'm weird like that. Innuendo FTW.

The dress is gorgeous - Hattie is right, I definitely think it would suit you. We're really not a good influence in the thriftiness department, are we?

Also, I have no idea what I'm doing for Hallowe'en this year. I haven't done anything for it for ages, other than helping out with the kids and suchlike. Last year, or possibly the year before, I dressed my sister up as the Bride of Dracula. I have to say, I think I really outdid myself - even she was too scared to look at the photos afterwards.

As for the C2, well personally, I think it's a great idea. You know I'm always up for a bit of femmeslash ;) On a serious note, though, I do think anything that encourages people to try something a bit different is a good thing. When I wrote that Ultra/Neon fic way back when, I got a lot of people reviewing telling me how they never thought they'd like femmeslash, but actually found themselves really enjoying it. And if no-one else joins the party, at least we'll have a good time. Hell, it's always good to go against the mainstream.

Crap, I meant to comment on your Boosh Week post, but things have been so crazy this week that I just haven't found a spare moment. I'm glad you had fun, though; it sounds immense. I still really need to get tickets. I just know that I'll leave it too late if I don't get my arse into gear soon.

Oh, I meant to say before, feel free to post that birthday fic on the BSH or wherever you want. Hell, it's your story, you can do what you like with it.

CLIMATE CRMINALS! RAPING THE PLANET!
I love the people round here.

It's kind of embarrassing, the way I can't drink coffee and I've never even tried tea. It's funny tho- for some reason, I decided before I'd even tried it that I was gonna be a black coffee no sugar person, but as soon as I tried it, I was loading it full of sugar and soya milk. Dedication.
I would quite like to try a frappucino, but it's too cold for them here right now.

Ha, I did notice the 'straighter' thing. It made me giggle.
Innuendo is always good. You should see my panto script- there's one scene put together entirely from Carry On lines.

I always do something for Hallowe'en- I was in the Ranger Guides right up until I went to uni, and they always had a party. The last one I went to, everyone else was wearing these pseudo-sexy costumes from a cornershop (even the 10-year-olds), and I hacked up a t-shirt, covered it in foundation so it looked like dirt, and went as a zombie. Might do that this year, actually. It's simple enough.
And Hallowe'en at uni is another excuse to dress up, get together and get pissed. Like we need excuses.

I mistrust the mainstream. It tries to placate me with alcohol and then begrudges me my drinking problems...
But yeah, I couldn't help thinking when I skimmed through the archive just how many characters and pairings the Boosh has to write about, and how few are actually used. There was only one fic that focused on Mrs Gideon, and I've always thought that she's got so much potential, because we know hardly anything about her. And it's not even just the female characters- I still think that I'm the only person on the entire internet who's written something that centres on Saboo.
It's weird, I'd have thought there'd be more interest in femslash, or at least female characters, to begin with. I mean, the Boosh fandom must be 99.9% female, and they all write about cocks and mansex that's so far removed from their own experiences.
But yeah, I know we'll at least enjoy it. Opening up new people to any alternative fic would be such a nice bonus.

And (argh, I've written an epic) about your birthday fic- I kind of thought it'd be rude to post it somewhere that wouldn't let you see it, when I wrote it as a gift to you. So I thought I'd ask you first.
