Day wasted, day saved

I went down to Sheffield today, because I had some things to do. I managed none of them.

I texted Steve, whose room I'm having next year (he wanted Tom's old room because it's upstairs and he'll have a better view of whether or not his car's been stolen), and he told me that he'd cleared the room out for me so I could put my stuff in there and left a key in the drawer for me, but I'd have to text Helen to let her know I was coming so she could let me in, because he wasn't there. So I texted Helen and got no reply. I called her this morning and her phone was off, so I tried Ellis in the hope that he'd be there. He told me that Helen was actually with him, and neither of them were at the house. So no one would be there to let me in. But he said it wasn't a problem because I could just call the landlady and ask her to lend me the spare key. So I called her and got her answering machine. When that happened twice, I left her a message telling her when I'd be around and asking her to call me back to let me know where to go to get the key. By the time we'd actually arrived in Sheffield, she still hadn't called back, so we went round to her house (and boy, does that lady have money) and she wasn't in. We kept calling all day, but she never got back. Ergo, we had to bring all my stuff back home.

I also needed to go to the English Department office for some unknown reason (tho I suspect this may have something to do with me being paid for my Practical Drama exam, which was a public performance), but of course, that was closed for the weekend.

So I went to Plug to ask about a ticket to the Boosh afterparty, accidentally mistook the way to Plug for the way to Corporation, and had to ask for directions in the Frog and Parrot. I got to the box office eventually tho, and the girl in there said that they hadn't received any paper tickets yet, and I would have to either wait or buy online.

So of the three things I needed to get done today, I achieved none. Needless to say, the parentals were not pleased. Especially considering that once we got to the building work near the town centre, the satnav didn't have a clue what it was doing.

For me tho, the whole thing was worth it. I can't tell my parents this, but to me, it was like coming home for a day. It was worth it just to see the town. Eventually I'll have to tell them that I consider Sheffield and not Burntwood to be home now, but I really don't think they'll take it well.

Everything's changed in the three months or so since I was last there (God, three months, it feels like ages). The Frog and Parrot seems to have had a complete makeover outside, there's scaffolding everywhere, and Vintage has been shut down! I honestly cannot believe that. Vintage is what it sounds like- this awesome (and cheap) vintage clothes shop, and it's where I got the fabulous green spotted miniskirt I wore for the Electro Girl Incident from, in the sale for a pound. Vis a vis:

It was an amazing shop. There's still Freshman's Boutique, but that's generally a fair bit more expensive than Vintage.

But yeah, I saw home again, which was worth it, and Dad bought a Fleet Foxes album and played it in the car, and I really like it. It's got elements of country in it, which I'm becoming increasingly fond of. I was sort of half-asleep as well, so I kept going into that trance-like state where you can just slip into the music and you get these images. The last album that did that to me was Enya's 'A Day Without Rain', which inspired some pretty decent (well, decent by my standards, anyway) art, which I am still planning to post at some point, it's just that there's one I really want to finish first.
Slightly less good, these images were interspersed with images of checking my emails, which is very much less good. Addiction, anyone?
I bought a ticket to the aftershow online, from Plug's own website instead of Trinity Street. For some reason, Trinity Street wouldn't let me order an aftershow ticket unless I also bought a tour ticket, and Plug's booking fee was less anyway.
I'm gonna be so skint this term, it's not even funny. O well.
I also had a look in the window of the union jobshop, and there's a lot of good stuff going.
My parents at least saw the house through the windows as well, and Mum has stopped worrying about me living in a pigsty. Tho they weren't impressed by next door's collection of empty bottles. I was, if I'm honest.

Also, Lucie- I went to the Smiths in town to ask if they knew anything about a wristband system in Meadowhall, and the woman in there said that they would probably do it the same way as the town one, which is first-come-first-served.

less than good day, boosh, sheffield
