Follow the Yellow Brick Road to The Emerald City of Oa

I've been watching the Green Lantern Animated cartoon, and among other things this has sprouted fan fic idea.

Because dude, both the Lantern Corps and the Land of Oz are color coded. And this obviously (in my brain) means that they must go together.

And you know what - it works out surprisingly well.

Staring Hal Jordon in the role of Dorthy.

Sinistro in the role of the Scarecrow (though I think he'd be more likely to ask for Hal to get a brain). The Scarecrow in later Oz books became the King of Winkie Country.

Razor in the role of the Tin Woodman. They both have tragic romances as their backstory, and so Razor might get a romance subplot (I really do love Razor/Aya, and there are plenty of inanimate objects that are given life in Oz so it wouldn't be hard to work in).

Killowog in the role of the Cowardly Lion. The Cowardly Lion ended up as one of Ozma's guards.

Princess/Queen Iolande in the role of Princess Ozma/Tip. Princess Ozma was turned into a boy and hidden with no idea of his identity. I am told Iolande at one time dressed as a boy to disguise herself, and seems to be a pretty baddass ruler.

Saint Walker in the role of Glinda the Good.

Atrocious in the Role of the Wicked Witch of the East South.

Parallex in the role of Elpheba The Wicked Witch of the West.

The Guardians in the role of the Wizard of Oz.

And Mogo as the land of Oz.

Hal is a test pilot who gets caught in a storm over the Bermuda. He manages to keep control of his plane just long enough to eject over land instead of the ocean. Except when he touches down he realizes that he isn't anywhere that he even vaguely recognizes (there are red trees, and red grass, and a really big red guy that is squashed underneath the remains of his plane, and really a lot of red in general). And then some people come around and exclaim how he is in Quadling Country and the guy under his plane is Atrocious of the South, a cruel warlord. Celebration ensues, even though it's some of the angriest celebrating Hal has ever seen (possibly, at the request of Mayhem, with singing). Somewhere in the middle of the celebration this green ring that the dead guy had starts floating after Hal and bothering him until he pockets it, which seems to calm it down, and you know what, whatever, it's not like that's the strangest thing he's seen that day.

So they celebrate some, but as much fun as all that is Hal would still kind of like to go home, so he asks if anyone has knows where he might be able to get another plane, or even something to fix his old one. The quadlings are all kind of puzzled but just when Hal was starting to lose hope this guy, Saint Walker of the East (apparently their on a pilgrimage), drops from the trees and suggests that the Guardians in the Emerald City of Oa might have the technology to do such a thing.

So it's off to see the Guardians of Oa.

Along the way Hal runs into Sinistro, Razor, and Kilowog, all of whom need to see or want to talk to the Guardians for some reason.

Now the City of Oa is the Capital of the land of Mogo, and traditionaly that is where the Royal Family lives using their great Will to help acheive balance between the emotions of the other lands (Rage/Hate, Love, Hope, and Fear in Quadling, Gillikin, Munchkin, and Winkie Country respectively), but a while ago the King and Queen were killed, and the Princess went missing leaving the job to the Guardians with limited success.

(In reality the Princess Iolande was taken and turned into a boy, taking away her memory and hiding her from discovery so that she can not take her rightful place.)

They get to the Guardians and try to talk to them.get help/report things/whatever,and of course the Guardians are dicks, so the send them off to go and battle Parallax over in Winkie country, cause with the Red guy dead he's their biggest pain in the ass right now, and whatever happens it'll get rid of one of the things bothering them right?

And of course off they go.

Somewhere, thankfully before they actually get to Parallax but after they've been through enough for a few close calls the others find out about the ring Hal has. Considering all the times it would have been useful before now the others are understandably exasperated. Luckily Kilowog used to be a member of the Royal Guard (who wear the rings along side the usual enforcer type people of the corp), though he either left or was sent away after the family was killed and he didn't save them, and he can teach Hal the basics of how to use it so they don't get their asses severely handed to them in the upcoming battle.

This is probably also about when they pick up the boy who was the princess.

And then they defeat Parallax, Sinistro basically taking over his place as ruler of the Winkie country (and thus fear) in the process. And if I make Parallax the bad for the Princess deal probably also turns him back into a girl and discovering her identity in no small part because Kilowog recognizes her. (Or maybe she was kept near Parallax to hide her strong Willpower from being detected, since yellow can suppress green at times.)

There is some awkwardness on Hal's part cause Iolande is way hot and he wants to/does flirt with her some, but she was also just a guy and he doesn't actually know how to proceed in this particular case (girls who turn out to have guy parts he's dealt with before, but this is a new variation). They end up just being really good friends the way the were when Iolande was a guy, but there is still that initial bit of awkward.

Probably one of the Guardians will end up having been behind the plot, and they'll have to take care of that to get Iolande back on the throne.

At the very very end Hal finds out the ring he's had the entire time can take him home.
