Those who didn't know how to spell before the reform haven't improved at all after the reform. The only thing that happened is that those who used to know how to spell are now confused as well.
The reform didn't make anything easier - it would have had to be much more drastic for that. Now it just looks strange, isn't etymologically precise, and even after six years the changed words still strike me as wrong when I come across them in a text.
