It's May 1, May Day, and I haven't written in 4 weeks. Nothing much happened in April, but the highlight was Danni's birthday on the 23rd. I got her a dvd box set of an anime she watched as a kid - The Mysterious Cities of Gold. I'd never heard of it, due to my lack of cartoon watching as a child. It's not the greatest cartoon, it's very 80's, but it's entertaining enough to watch. I like the bits at the end where the writers tried to stick in some educational information about Inca civilization. In addition to the birthday, Danni also took a week off from work and it was great to hang out and do stuff (or do nothing) together.
Right now I am really, really, really excited because on Sunday Danni and I are going to the Xena convention in London! I found out about the convention in February and kind of didn't hold out any hope of going. I assumed that all tickets would sell out because who would pass up an opportunity to see Lucy Lawless in person?? But after thinking, and thinking, and thinking, I finally decided that I should make it happen. Originally I wanted to turn it into a mini holiday - go down on Saturday and come home on Monday (because Monday the 5th is a Bank Holiday) - but it would have been too expensive to stay a whole weekend. I then decided that it would be best to just go down early Sunday and miss a bit of the convention (the coach supposedly gets to Victoria Station at 10:50am and the convention doors open at 11am) and leave when the convention finishes. So it will be a horrible day full of traveling (about 5 hours total), but it will be worth it (at least for me).
In intellectual news, I am reading the most awesome book I have read since Eighty-Sixed. It's called Paradise by Toni Morrison. When I was younger I stayed away from Toni Morrison books because I thought they were too smart for me. But in my freshman year at Mills I had to read Sula and I really enjoyed it, but I thought that was a fluke. Then in my Junior year I had to read Beloved. And lo and behold I loved that one too. My mom picked up Paradise at the library and mailed it with my birthday presents. Anyway, very few books will peak my interest on page 1, but this one sure did! It is absolutely amazing. I have about 100 pages left and I'm already sad that it has to end.
I think there was something else I was going to mention, but I can't remember right now. Oh well, must not have been important! Until next week, where I will geek out my blog with convention stories and pictures.
