Powerhouse

Resentment gnawed at Billie like a bone.
She dreamed of power, and had it in her hand
Only at home alone, with the lights turned low,
The family hit list growing in her mind
Till no one was left but her. She mourned for them
Only until the daylight brought them back
Like vampires in reverse. Then the black dogs -
Her boss, her mother, strangers in the street -
Howled at the door, or used the telephone,
All of them out to get her … A tiny sun
In a universe of mirrors, she was sure
That everything said to her was about her,
That the moon burned with her heat. Like the inverted thief,
His mind a prison cell, she couldn’t stand
The thought that everyone everywhere made love without her.
