the most satisfying part of my walk to work
each day
involves leaping over plastic jersey barriers that lay fallen across the sidewalk
which is all torn up and covered in rubble

then the train my father takes to work passes me at the crossing
and i look for his face but the cars clatter by too quickly
though some days he notices me and my umbrella

i'm invincible
because i ran across a lane of oncoming motor scooters to catch a bus
and didn't miss my train
