If I Die Young - The Band Perry
Spencer stared at the casket in front of him frozen in place. He wasn’t ready to say goodbye, this couldn’t be it. He felt a hand rest on his shoulder and turned to find Derek’s mother standing next to him, eyes red and glistening. He engulfed her in his arms as the two of them stood in the empty church. The funeral had been over for an hour now but neither was ready to admit that Derek wasn’t coming back to them. A hero, the papers called him, but to Spencer it didn’t feel that way. He wanted his lover alive and with him instead of standing here in a suit the casket looming in front of him. It was supposed to be forever; forever wasn’t supposed to end two years later.
Little White Church- Little Big Town
It was an ultimatum. The two of them stared at each other neither wanting to back down from what they wanted. Spencer wanted commitment, he was sick of hiding in the shadows and sneaking around when no one was looking. He had tried to get Derek to understand how he was feeling but Derek just kept blowing him off. “I’m serious,” he said, his voice echoing off the restroom walls. “You go back out there and tell that slut you’re going home with me or we’re through.”
As Good As I Once Was - Toby Keith
Derek groaned as he found himself lying on his back in the grass. He felt like he had gotten the wind knocked out of him. Closing his eyes he stayed in that position as he heard the sound of laugher getting closer. Opening his eyes he found Spencer leaning over him reaching out his hand, “Ready to admit you just can’t do that anymore?”
Derek pulling himself into a sitting position and brushed the grass off his knees, “Never.”
Fearless - Taylor Swift
Derek stood in the doorway of their bedroom staring at Spencer. Papers were laying on every surface of the bed and floor. Books stood stacked piled 6 high on the nightstand and in the middle of it was Spencer staring down at a laptop pencil between his teeth. Derek couldn’t help but smile at the situation; he couldn’t believe how lucky he truly was to have Spencer in his life. For once he didn’t worry about anything or not being himself. Spencer didn’t judge him for his past but embraced it as how it had shaped Derek. Stepping into the room Derek pressed a kiss against Spencer’s forehead and whispered “thank you.”
Spencer looked up from the sentence he had been in the middle of writing and pulled the pencil away from his mouth, “You’re welcome.” He had learned early on not to question why Derek was telling him thank you but to just accept it as a quirk of Derek’s.
Only Prettier - Miranda Lambert
The two of the sat the bar, the rest of the team had already left. Spencer excused himself to go to the restroom asking Derek to order him another beer while he was gone. As Spencer made it back to the bar he saw some blonde leaning against the bar chatting up Derek. He reached for the barstool he had been sitting on pulling it away from where the blonde was standing. “Excuse me.” Derek slid down the beer he had ordered as he tried to ignore what the blonde was saying to him.
The blonde whirled around about to say something when she realized who was standing next to her. “Spencer Reid?!” He nodded taking a sip of the beer before looking over. He almost choked on the sip of beer seeing Harper Hillman standing there. “Harper.”
“No hard feelings?”
“Of course not,” Spencer shook her hand faking a tight smile. “Have a good night.”
“You too.” She spun back around intent on finishing her conversation with Derek as Spencer stood from the barstool and held his hand out pulling Derek up with him. Derek wrapped his arm tightly around Spencer as the two of them moved through the crowd heading for the exit.
The World - Brad Paisley
The two of the lay in bed Derek with his arm wrapped around Spencer. “It really wasn’t that bad pretty boy.”
“Sure, you didn’t have her call you that,” he scoffed.
“Hey listen to me.” Derek reached his hand under Spencer’s chin tilting it up so he could see his eyes. “No matter what anyone else says or does just remember I love you. You matter to me babe. Without you in my life I don’t think I could get through most of the things that have come my way.” He pressed his lips against Spencer’s forehead. “You’re my world. Forever.”
Stuck Like Glue - Sugarland
Spencer looked over at Derek asleep in their bed. It was 2:30 in the morning and he found himself not being able to sleep. Running his fingers over Derek’s arm he smiled unsure of how he got so lucky to have Derek in his life. For the first year he was scared that one morning Derek was going to wake up and decide he could do better than Spencer but instead Spencer found himself falling in love with Derek more and more each day and it seemed as though Derek felt the same. It was almost daily that first year that Derek did something, often unintentionally, that made Spencer fall in love with him all over again. Pressing a kiss against Derek’s shoulder he sighed contently. Derek rolled over and pulled Spencer into his arms and mumbled, “Quit worrying.”
Blank Sheet of Paper - Tim McGraw
Derek stared at his email at the blank new message trying to figure out what to say. He’d ask Garcia but his plan would be ruined before he even got a chance to put it in motion. He wasn’t sure if an email was even the right way to go about asking Spencer out but a piece of paper ran the risk of someone else in the team finding out. Then again he pondered; Garcia could hack his email and find out that way. A text message seemed too informal for the situation. He started typing and stopped looking up over the computer monitor to look at Spencer from across the bullpen before looking back down at the email. Closing out of the program he pushed away from his desk and made his way across the bullpen. Leaning against Spencer’s desk he smiled, “Hey pretty boy, how bout we catch a movie tonight?”
Seasons of Love - Rent Motion Picture Soundtrack
Derek held Spencer close to his body as they made their way through the crowds. He wasn’t sure why he had decided they should spend New Year’s Eve in the middle of Times Square with the rest of the world but here they were. Finding a spot he could stand without getting too squished he pulled Spencer in his arms, “happy baby?”
Spencer glanced up at the large ball ready to spout out random knowledge of the creation of the whole event in Times Square but instead just nodded. He reached into his messenger bag and pulled out the bottle of champagne and glasses he had brought with them. The crowd around them began buzzing as the clock hit 11:59. Handing the bottle to Derek he held out the glasses as Derek opened the bottle and began pouring. Two glasses full he put the bottle back in his bag and nuzzled into Derek’s arms waiting for the countdown. Derek held out his glass as the crowd screamed out “6!”, “To us, pretty boy and to the next year, may it be better than this,” Spencer clinked glasses with Derek and smiled, “To the next 525,600 minutes.” A kiss sealed the toast as the crowd around them went wild with the celebration of a new year beginning.
