Ok, so I get quite a few requests for help on how I get my video clips of the movies I make videos for. So, instead of replying to every single inquisition each time, I'm here to give you a general overview of how I do it. So if you've messaged me and I've sent you here, this is what I would tell you in a personal response, I'm just trying to make things easier on myself by putting it here.
So to answer anyone's questions, I don't download the clips (well, unless its some behind the scenes stuff), I rip all my clips directly from my dvds. This is probably why you're here, because you want to know how to do it too. So to rip the files from my dvd onto my computer, I use a program called DVD Decrypter. This will take the files from your DVD (IFO files I'm pretty sure they're called) and save them to your hard drive. To use it, you need to have a DVD player in your computer and a fair amount of space on your hard drive as one dvd is usally about 4 gigs of files (although in the second program, you will pare that down a bit as you pick and choose the clips you want).
After that to use these files in a video editng program, you need to change them into a different type of files because IFO's will not work in editing programs. So then I use a program called VirtualDubMod and convert them into AVI files. These should then be readable in things like Windows Movie Maker, or another program. Make sure you compress the files otherwise you will run out of space very quickly. the Divx selections under Video and then Compression are usually the best bet as Divx codecs are easily available to download.
Now about getting these programs. I'm pretty close to sure that you can find both of them available for download if you search through Google or another search engine. I had an awesome friend who gave them to me and I have no idea where he got them. Upon asking him recently about where he said he got them (you know, because people were now asking me), he says he got them from someone else. Ah, the drawbacks to sharing. But I am pretty sure you can find them somewhere on the internet for free (but don't quote me on that). They also are not the only programs out there to use. If you find something else that looks like it will do the trick, by all means, it probably does the same job as these ones do. Those two just happen to be the ones I use.
And that's about it. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. I may not always be able to help but I can try. You can email me at gazzersgirl@yahoo.com or send me a message through Youtube. And I realize that there are probably a lot more technical saavy people out there, so if you know any, chances are they'll know more than me. though I know how frustrating it can be to try and figure out things yourself, so I want to try and help the people who've asked me.
