bacon is the new black
Heck yeah, the weekend was a success! I got the car battery for $40 cheaper than I expected and got it installed on Saturday thanks to 
mindsplinters's dad. Plowed through my creative block and finished my backlog of old posts, so now I don't have any tags waiting older than July.
I saw Brave and very much enjoyed it! Almost as much, I enjoyed the comments of the movie-goers coming out of the showing before ours, like the little 5-year-old telling her mother "I cried! I did!" or the father holding his little boy's hand and telling him "That movie scared Daddy! The bear was scary!" It was nice, or maybe vindicating, to see fathers and sons enjoying the movie as much as mothers and daughters (you mean a movie starring a girl, about the bond between a mother and daughter, might appeal to all genders? no one tell the Rapunzel Tangled marketing team!).
But yes, I was impressed with the animation, and I may have gotten a little weepy myself, and how did I not realize until the credits that Billy Connolly was the voice of Merida's father? I also appreciate the way the movie validated both Merida's and Elinor's lifestyles without sneaking in some message that a woman should be like one or the other.
Also, since the battery turned out cheaper and I had actual MONEY this weekend I joined Angie at The Mint (she'd been there before, I hadn't). They're closing down for a week and wanted to clear out their fridge, so they were having a $10 all-you-can-eat buffet of whatever they could throw together with what they had on hand. Turns out the chef there is rather creative, so I had spicy duck hash, tabbouleh macaroni salad, and the most amazing cheddar jalapeño beignets dusted with bacon salt (what) that were very slightly sweet but mostly savory and omg. A+. Would stuff my face again.
Then I also got some laundry and some shopping done, blah blah, adult stuff.
Worked Monday, and yesterday I had a convenient day off so that I could drive
tatterpixie to the airport for her West Coast adventures, but was then waylaid the rest of the day by intense sinus headache fuckery, so I didn't get as much done as I would have liked.
Here's hoping the next four days of work are somewhat saner than last week!
