It's sort of hard to do a bunch of fics for Christmas, so I'm just going to see how many fics I can write for other people over the school break. Starting with REL-TIDE.
Request the first: Binshou and Atsumi at an aquarium. Cute happens.
I asked myself, "Now why would they be together at an aquarium in the first place?"
"Shizenkai-san tells me that Toudai's botanical gardens are quite lovely this time of year," noted Atsumi, watching a dolphin that was watching her. "I understand that Takawa-san is rather fond of gardens himself."
This was code for: "Thank you for telling me of Takawa-san's plans to take Kyouri-hime on a date to the aquarium. Turns out, it's a bad plan."
"I'll be sure to tell him," said Binshou, which was straightforward enough, but he also raised his eyebrows slightly.
This was code for: "Perhaps my personal affection for marine life is blinding me, but what could possibly be objectionable about an aquarium?"
Atsumi noticed the signal, and addressed him with unusual directness. "Animals make Kyouri-hime very nervous." Certainly she could trust Binshou to sympathize with this information, and all the better to prevent him from sharing shark trivia with the princess besides.
"Oh." His face fell slightly. "How unfortunate!"
Aquarium appraised, mission accomplished, but Atsumi continued to move slowly and methodically through the exhibits. She was contemplating something. "Have you noticed a shirt that Takawa-san seems particularly fond of? A red and blue plaid garment?"
"Um, yes. It's difficult not to notice," Binshou admitted, and blushed. That sounded unkind.
The corners of Atsumi's smile twitched as she worked to avoid guffawing in what would surely be an unattractive display. "He tends to favor that shirt, and I'm afraid he may end up overlooking the cornflower blue polo in his wardrobe. It brings out his eyes so nicely."
"Well..." Binshou wondered how he could pass this information along to Daichi. "Takawa-san, this shirt brings out your eyes!" would not be quite as effective coming out of his mouth. "Shades of light blue have been shown to have an exceptionally positive psychological effect on test subjects. I think Takawa-san would be interested in hearing that!"
"I think so, too." Atsumi smiled, and finally gave her full attention to the aquarium, satisfied that there was one Terran with enough earnestness and subtlety for her purposes.
Binshou followed after her, his attention alternating between Atsumi and the fish. Until they came to the tunnel aquarium. "Wow."
They stepped into the middle of a shimmering blue world, fish and turtles and rays all flying over their heads. Binshou didn't know what to look at first. He followed a turtle a little ways, then caught sight of a small shark in the corner, then found a ray sliding sideways across the glass and watched it work its strange grinning mouth.
Atsumi was taking in everything at once: the schools, the sharks, and a lone sea bream foraging along the floor of the tank. The pump from the filtration system moved the water to and fro like a heartbeat, and the little fish was pushed from side to side as if it were swimming in the shallows of the real ocean. As usual, Atsumi heard music. It was hard not to hear it in such a place.
Her attention was drawn away by a quiet interjection. "Um..." Binshou was at her side again. "Seno-san, I nearly forgot. Here are the notes from class this week."
He pulled the papers out of his bag and handed them to her. She noted the blocky handwriting, with a drawing of a tiny shark in one of the margins. "Did you make all these copies by hand?"
"Uh." He was blushing again. "Those aren't copies. It wasn't any trouble." Binshou didn't want to say "I don't need any notes." It might sound like he was bragging, and he certainly didn't have anything to brag about.
Fortunately, Atsumi understood. "Thank you very much."
She smiled at him, and Binshou smiled back. It was nice to find someone who communicated on his wavelength.
HAR HAR wavelength.
1) Let me know if Atsumi calls Kia and Daichi by different names than what I have written, Reloo.
2) Ping, I'm sorry for so impugning Daichi's fashion sense. XD
