1. "A" ON MY CALCULUS MIDTERM. Although it's not the middle of the term, and there's another midterm before finals, so I guess this is more like a "third of the way through the" term. Still. A. A A A A A.
2. Seeing Tony Bennett with my mother last week, and watching this amazing 81-year-old singer dance on stage! I LOVE YOU, MR. BENEDETTO.
3. Going to see The Shins tomorrow night in Phoenix, even though it means driving up and back in one day and potentially being very tired on Wednesday. BECAUSE THE SHINS ARE MAGNIFICENT. You need only to gaze upon this image of their epic space battle to know that I speak truth.
4. Halloween decorations! October is my favorite month of the year, and Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year (leading into Thanksgiving, my second favorite, and I guess Z-mas isn't so bad either).
5. The autumn stars. Stargazing is so much more fun when there's a chill in the air. We may not get pretty leaves in southern AZ, but we more than make up for this with the number of visible stars. FOR NOW. If people keep moving out here we'll turn into Eastern U.S. Part Deux and I'll have to move to goddamn Alaska, BUT THIS IS A MEME OF HAPPINESS SO I'LL MOVE ON NOW...
6. Learning to cook! THAT'S RIGHT. I'm cooking, AND I'm enjoying it! All the credit should go to Julia Child. She writes cookbooks that read like science texts, and this makes it really accessible and engaging. Besides that, the results have been delicious! I'd never thought in a million years that I could make something like poached chicken in a reduced white wine sauce, but I did. AND I ATE IT. AND IT WAS AWESOME.
7. Medieval werewolf stories!
8. Heroes, and chatting with hearsawho about Heroes, and chatting with other people about things that are not Heroes, really. I don't chat very often, so when I do, it's fun.
9. Flash (BINSHOU!) and ANCD (IVONA!) and Dragons of Arcadia (WORKING ON AN APP). I've been playing games like this for almost ten years now, and they still make me happy, and THAT makes me happy.
10. Charm, my cockatiel, sitting on my wrist as I type this. ♥
