I can’t believe it. Seven years, after seven years we come back to see him, and he won’t even let me hold him. What sort of child doesn’t allow his own mother to touch him? Kimberly tried to tell me that it’s just a quirk of his, that he’s like that for everyone, but no child ever existed that didn’t want his mother to hold him. It’s just not natural, but I’ll tell you what it is. It’s ungrateful. I guess he’d rather we have left him in front of one of those orphanages to be starved and beaten. That was what his father suggested, if not in as many words. Of course. He looks so much like his father.
