A lame inside into my (sheltered) videogames experience:

video game thingy

1. What was the first video game you have ever played?: Rally Speedway, on the Atari

2. What was your first console?: Atari

3. Have you ever visited a video game arcade?: Lots of times, not as much now.

4. What was your first handheld?: A dinossaurs game, where you got to catch eggs. Spin off from the tv show of the same name.

5. What was the first game you've beaten/cleared completely? (Got to the last level/got 100%/beat high score, etc.): Alley cat (on our PC in the early 90s... gotta love MSdos games)

6. Games based off of real sports: Yay or Nay?: Yaaay, if it's not a team sport (racing, snowboarding etc is cool). Also, they have to have a funky unique design. Who wants realism in videogame sport? Go to the football field down the road!

7. Online games: Yay or nay?: Nay. Unless you're talking cards. I love cards.

8. Do you play any Massively Multiplayer Online RPG games? (MMORPGs?): Nope.

9. Do you play any virtual pet games? (Neopets, Teripets, Aftermathzone, etc.): I had a virtual goldfish once. Had to feed it, play, clean the tank, and then it came on as the screensaver. If you didn't look after it, it died. Noone wants a dead floating fish as a screensaver.

10. Puzzle games and Strategy games: Yay or Nay?: Yay! Especially the old school ones, like lemmings, lost mind of dr brain, and logical journey (zoombinis).

11. Do you play any RPGs?: No, not really. I used to. Indiana Jones and the search for Atlantis was good. I stopped at the Riven and Myst series.

12. Do you play any Platformer games?: Yes, playstation.

13. What was the first game/console/handheld of yours that stopped working?: The Dinossaurs game fell out of our apartment window (from the 11th floor), when I was 7.

Characters/Plot

14. Do you actually care if a game has a plot or do you just play games for the gameplay?: Gameplay. If it's good gameplay, I'll play it! (I mean, look at lemonade tycoon...cmon, make a business grow by SELLING LEMONADE???)

15. Name a few video game characters that are your favorites.: Old school first... Sonic, Luigi, Donald duck and Goofy (on a handheld thati used to have), Leisure Suit Larry, and Indiana Jones!... and the new ones, I love the narrator on Logical Journey... the voice is sooo funny! And some of the charachters on ssx snowboarding.

16. Name a few series that are your favorites: MarioKart, SSX, I liked a few of the pokemon games as well...on PC, Sim City, Lemmings, Commander Keen and Monster Bash, Riven/Myst.

17. Has a video game ever made you cry?: Only when it was time to leave the console and do something else.

18. Has a video game character annoyed you so much that you wanted him removed from the game? Sofia from Indiana Jones.

19. Do you "pair" or "ship" characters up with one another? (make/create/write romance involving them): Does making matching boy and girl zoombinis count? It actually made the game a whole lot harder, coz they looked so different.

20. Do you write video game fanfiction?: No

21. Do you draw video game fanart?: I used to as a kid, with crayons. I don't know where they went, "disappeared", probably.

22. Do you come up with theories on how a character came to be/what he or she would do in a situation/why he or she is moody/etc.: Not really, unless it's the sims. Then I make it up, and it's all true!

23. Are you a "fanboy" or "fangirl" of any character?: No.

Boss Battles/Villains

24. Hardest Boss Battle: Monster Bash! You only threw bones! But it was worth it!

25. Most Frustrating Boss Battle: This is going to sound lame.... The final battle in 'Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom' (yes, there is a game with that name). The big colourful pretty leader bat swoops you faster than you can fly, and poops tracking granades at the same time!

26. Most Rewarding Boss Battle: Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom! It was great to win!

27. Funnest Boss Battle: Invasion of the Mutant Space Bats of Doom! It was awesome when you won!

28. Most Boring Boss Battle: Indiana Jones. You get Sophia, and then you have to puncha a couple of guards out of the way.

29. Boss Battle that dragged out for a long, long time: I can't remember the name of the game, but it was a boy magician aganst evil demons. Same makers as Commander Keen and Monster Bash.

30. Boss Battle with the coolest music: I never remember the music.

31. Most Surprising Boss Battle: The mummies on Monster bash (they take ages to die!)

32. What's your all time favorite villain?: The pizza trolls on Logical Journey, i don't know if they really count.

33. What's your all time least favorite villain?: Don't really have one.

34. Do you ever feel sorry for the villains?: No.

35. Are there any villains that seem like they should be playing for the good guys, but aren't?: Not really. I guess they're designed that way.

36. Most malicious villain: maybe it's me, but I don;t ever actually think the villains are all that mallicious...

37. Most surprising villain: The colourful bat that pooped grenades in IOTMSBOD.

Favorites

39. What's your favorite 3D game? (PS1/N64/Saturn generation): Sonic!

40. What's your favorite arcade game?: Atari! Always brings back memories.

41. What's your favorite next-gen game? (Gamecube/PS2/Dreamcast/X-Box): SSX!

42. Sequels/long series: Yay or nay?: Depends on the game, and the sequel. I've never really understood Final Fantasy, for example.

43. What's your favorite Online Game?: Anything that involves logic and puzzles. And cards!

44. What's your favorite console?: Umm, Atari, and Playstation!

45. What's your favorite handheld?: I loves the Donald Duck and Goofy one I had. You had to catch boxes that were falling off a conveyor belt before they smashed!

46. Have you ever got yourself involved in a "console war"?: No. It's a bit stupid to fight over which consoles are the best. And adding to Luise's comment, Microsoft may be good at software, but that's a loong way away from gaming hardware. The good games are all on the other consoles! Buying an Xbox to stay loyal is just a stupid waste of money. Losers.

47. Have you ever defended a character/game/console you liked in an argument? Which one?: No ame consoles, but I do remember defending logic games in general as being better than sport simulation games.

48. Name a game that you like but everyone else seems to hate.: Psycho pinball. Maybe people don't like it because it's outdated, but it's still so awesome!

49. Name a character that you like but everyone else seems to hate.: The aliens in commander keen. They were so cute!

50. Name a game that you hate but everyone else seems to like.: There are heaps.

51. Name a character that you hate but everyone else seems to love.: Duke Nukem. The game quotes between dad and Juliana never seem to stop!

Miscellaneous

52. Have you ever stopped before you finished a game because it was too frustrating to go on?: Yes.

53. Will you stop at NOTHING to get 100% in a video game?: Yeah. It's what makes the game fun once you've done everything the first time.

54. Have you ever injured yourself at a video game? (Space Invader wrist and Mario Party 1 blister victims may answer yes): Yeah... I'm a victim on Space Inavder wrists.

55. Has a horror/survival genre video game scared you to the point that you refused to finish the game? Did you get nightmares from said game?: I try to stay away from those...

56. Have you ever thrown a controller/disc/cartridge in a fit of frustration?: Yes, at Juliana. But only lightly, breaking the controller would've been too much.

57. Do you need to blow/clean certain games to get them to play?: We used to blow the atari games. Sometimes we polish the Playstation cds.

58. Have you ever played a game for so long that you missed sleep over it?: Yes, Logical Journey. So addictive!

59. Were you ever involved in the Pokemon craze?: I never really liked the cartoon, but I liked the snap and battle games on the N64. And the holographic stickers were pretty cool. All holographic stickers are cool. Hooray!

60. Last but not least: Do you picture yourself playing video games 10, 20, or 30 years from now?: Absolutely! My mum and grandma do it! Why not me? But in the nearer future, I want to get dad to set up one of our crusty computers to run DOS, or windows 3.1, and revive all the old games we have. Some of them are on 5.25in floppies, which we still have a working floppy drive to read with!
