I've never told you guys this, but since October I've been teaching two additional tap classes during the week. One on Tuesday night and one on Thursday night. This happened because the teacher was too busy performing in a production for a local theater company, and needed someone to cover these two classes. Since I get off of work earlier now, and would give my big toe to teach more tap classes, I said yes, I would cover those classes. One is an intermediate tap class, which I was more then comfortable teaching, and the other is an advanced tap class, which scared the shit outta me to have to teach only because I haven't been in an advanced tap class for ages.
Well, as it happened, the teacher I was covering for really busted up her knee, and would no longer physically be able to teach the classes any longer. Which is of course really sad for her, but has turned into an incredible opportunity for me. And frankly, I'm kind of giddy over it.
Having this opportunity is a good thing for a number of reasons. 1)Tap dancing is my life, and being able to do it, and teach more of it, makes me the happiest beyond anything else. Like just getting to do that, is brilliant. 2)Both these two classes are larger, ie. more students, then my tap class on Saturday. 3)Not gonna lie, it's nice to have even a liiiiitle more income each month. But let's get to the real reason why I'm excited.
3)Like I said, I was scared shitless to teach the advanced tap class. But honestly, it has gone so super well. Me taking this class, also gives me the opportunity to work with and teach some of the best dancers in the studio, which kind of blows my mind. Plus, when it comes to recital, this means that my choreography will be seen in the last recital show, which is usually reserved for advanced dancers, and since the majority of classes I teach are babies, this usually never happens. So, my choreography will be seen by more people, which I love.
I'm so fucking pumped for this you guys. I can not handle just how excited I am for this opportunity to happen to me. I thought I was already excited for recital next year. But this takes it to a whole new level. YAY!
