I have never felt so fucking exhausted in my entire life.
I'm back in Phoenix, after epic muse weekend, have just barely survived my day at work, and want to talk a little bit about what went down this weekend. Why? Because it was a fucking blast! It had been two years since I had seen Muse live, and can I say how damn good it feels to be able to see Muse again. Ugh! What seeing those three live does to my heart.
I'm not gonna share too many pictures, because I'm sure somewhere on the internet, people have MUCH MUCH better photos then mine. But we'll talk about pictures a little bit later. Hold that thought.
So Saturday night was the Phoenix gig. My fifth time seeing Muse live and, if I can get cheesy for a moment, the great thing about Muse is that it always feels like the first time, because you're never bored by what you see.
I want to talk about the stage set-up first because Tom, and whoever designed this tours stage, did an INCREDIBLE job! I knew what the stage looked like, but I had, prior to this weekend, done my best to try and avoid looking and too many pictures or watching too many videos. I love the Resistance tour stage. I love the three towers, and the rotating part of Dom't tower. It worked so well, I did love it. But oh my god did this stage design seem to trump anything else. First of all, the colors, the graphics, the brightness. WOAH! Okay granted there were freaking led(?) screens everywhere you looked, so it would be brighter of course, but the whole thing was just stunning. I loved the fact that the stage had the rear walkway so Matt could walk around, and entertain from back, stage right, stage left, or anywhere. In Vegas there were seats behind the stage, and I really do appreciate in both tours really, how Muse works hard to give everyone a good show, no matter where they were sitting. I loved everything about the set-up. One "problem" with the three towers was the fact that Dom seemed so far away, and that fact was non existent at this tour. Whoever came up with this design, did an absolutely incredible job!
I, for the most part, love my city, but when it comes to concerts, I do think as a crowd, we're a pretty mediocre bunch. Which was why, when I found out that Muse were coming back to Phoenix, I was a little surprised, because what would draw them back to a city that, in my opinion, didn't have the most involved and excited crowd. Not complaining, I think Phoenix just needs to step it up. I wish, that people in Phoenix would be just as excited hearing the start of 'New Born', as they were hearing 'Starlight' or 'Supermassive Black Hole'. As a result of my opinion, I think Matt, I say his name only because he's the front man, had to work the crowd a little bit harder then, in my opinion, he should have. So who knows what the lure of Phoenix was, but I'm not complaining.
One of the things I was most excited about in Phoenix was the fact that we got 'New Born'. Any song being performed from my favorite album is good enough for me :D Safe to say, I was a very happy camper.

During this show, Matt did seem to be in a great mood, and as a result, was pretty chatty. I didn't see it go down, but in the GA there was a, I'm going to assume girl, sitting on someone's shoulders. The security person must have asked her to get down. Matt, right before playing the 'Star Spangled Banner' yells something like "Isn't this the home of the free?" Plays the SSB, and insists that he is fine with people sitting on shoulders. And, by the end of the concert, there was a whole lot more of that going on. The power of Matt Bellamy compels you!
Before we travel to Las Vegas, I'd like to share a few pictures from Phoenix. I think I'm going to try to find a new gig camera, because I don't think this one is cutting it in terms of gig photos. It does great for regular pictures, but I'm just frustrated by what I'm coming up with. Sure I was far away, and sure, there might be a setting that I could fuss with, but I'm not really happy. In these you can tell who is who, and their outline, but I really wish I could get more detail. Anyway, is there a recommendation for a good gig camera? Let me make a disclaimer before we begin: These are not great pictures. I know this, and I am sorry. But they're my pictures, I took them myself, and that means I love them dearly.
Ear porn
Posting this for the simple fact of 'OMG how skinny are Matt's legs?'
Chris looked so good not only on this night, but on both shows. I could have been happier for him.
Pretty!
Piano!Matt . My complete weakness.
So my absolute favorite moment of both shows, clearly I have my priorities straight, was when Matt straddled Dom's drum while Chris sang in front of the stage. It was boyfriend time. And I love that Matt/Dom had a moment since Dom and Chris had a moment this year. Tbh, I was trying my damnedest to get a proper good picture of this moment.
I do wanna take a moment to discuss the wonder that is the Wolstenbeast, because not only is he looking fit, but I loved the fact that when he stepped on the front of the stage for his own songs, he had the most absolute control of the crowd, and he was such a bad ass. I loved it!
So the Phoenix show was over at 10:30 ish, and by the time I got to my parents house, I was dead. I had a flight in only hours, so slept when I had the chance, and made it to the hotel early in the mornin. After much MUCH confusion, I finally got my tickets, and all was well.
So the crowd in Las Vegas was ELECTRIC. I'm so pleased that I got to go to this show, because I knew that this was a show that I couldn't miss. As a result of the awesome as hell crowd, I think all three of the guys were really into the show, and rocked the hell out. It was so awesome!
Again bad pictures. I know! I adore them however because there are mine.
Can't tell you how excited I was to see a sleeveless shirt ;)
As I was saying, sleeveless shirt
One of my complete favorites from this weekend for sure.
More drum sitting.
The very last song they performed was 'Survival'. I knew that during the "fight, win" parts, there is usually Co2, gas, whatever it is, blown. However instead of the gas was fucking fire!! Not only fireworks, but not only that, lasers as well. This was a total surprise for me, and I would have never imagines it happening.
FIRE!?!?
BOOM!?
It was awesome!
Matt also decided to "throw" a guitar into the crowd. After smashing it a few times, he passed it into the crowd, and there was apparently a riot to get the guitar itself. I can't imagine ever getting one of Matt's own guitars. Oh my god I would completely cry.
Now, let's take a look at the gayest moment of the show. Let that Belldom flag fly. At the end of 'Knights of Cydonia', Matt kept holding the long note. He kept holding, and holding, and holding, all the while, keeping is eyes on Dom. Dom can't stop drumming, so he keeps drumming, and drumming, biting his lip, more drumming, he couldn't stop. Finally Matt let's go of the last note, and Dom looks completely spent, his face all sweaty, and the smug look on Matt's face is like "Oh, did I do that. I'm so sorry." ;) Oh my goodness, I thought I had died.
I got about an hour and a half of sleep last night, and I'm so tired. In fact I imagine that I'm going to bed right after this.
I have zero complaints about this weekend. I wouldn't do anything differently. Although I would like to discuss two things in conclusion.
1)My seats, both nights, were back right about where the sound booth began. I ended up with a really awesome view, but again, they were pretty far back. I wondered if buying the tickets through the .mu presale is really that worth it. I wondered if I could do better, or just as good, buying tickets through the venue itself, or through something like Ticketmaster.
2)Dominic's live visuals for 'Uprising'. I'm not a big fan, but I don't hate them. I just thought them to be a little cheesy. Not that I'm complaining about seeing that boy's face so large. Having said that, it was exciting to finally see the end result of mysterious tweets from a while back.
I can't say enough good things about this tour, this weekend or Muse itself. I don't know just what I would do without them and their music. Going to a Muse concert is truly a life altering event, and oh boy I would do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Muse! <3
P.S. My video of 'Panic Station'. One of the songs I was really looking forward to hearing.
