so i'm a bit sleepless, up early grinding on some projects.
came across this video while goofing off. it kind of mesmerized me all over again. a lot of people who aren't into sports (or maybe not old enough to remember Michael Jordan's hayday, shit, i barely am.) probably sigh or groan when people mention his name, "like what's the big deal? does he even play anymore?"
I don't have a great memory. but i remember Jordan. one of the things i remember most vividly was watching the '87 and '88 Slam Dunk championships. you wanna talk about on-court dominance, defensive prowess, raising the bar. FUCK THAT!* this is what created fans and made Nike...NIKE. what made my otherwise unconcerned great-grandmother pause for a minute and make sure she just saw that. and you always had to wait for the slom motion replay, so crucial, certainty that what u just saw happened and if you were unsure they'd show you 2 more times. wanting to move that way became religious, not really possible, but we tried. short-tugging, the tongue out. If they were lucky a pair of actual Jordans. Skywalker disciples were easy to spot.
Attempting to fly like that was the closest a lot of boys would come to appreciating the power and grace of ballet without the stigma that usually accompanies male interest or involvement in this country. even when (not if) he was busting our teams ass, Jordan felt like ours.
All that to say, you won't get it unless see it.
