Jack is standing at his closet, a towel wrapped around his hips, studying his wardrobe. He has a date with a very special Lady, one where he intends to make up for his many months of neglect. The evening has to be special, perfect if at all possible, yet he cannot get the question out of his head. Can he make it up to her?
“The problem, Mary.” Talking to the cat without even realizing it “Is that I am so easily caught up in things. I become distant, uncommunicative, distracted, short, blunt.” He sighs “Perhaps it is a fruitless endeavor, she would be happier with someone more open, more demonstrative. Someone without my dark past, that she will never have reason to fear.”
Turning away from the closet, he sat on the end of the bed and stares blankly at the wall for several minutes “It is selfish, wanting to win her heart. It is likely I will only neglect her again, that I will become involved with a project, buried beneath my studies. Yet I cannot turn away without taking that chance. I lost a wonderful woman once before, to give this one up without trying… No, it is not an option, she is too important.”
“If I walked away now, gave up now, I may as well give up forever.” He scratches the cat behind the ears and stands again. “So. What shall I wear?”
