The Mitts Are FINISHED

Mar 15, 2011 09:58

I have mentioned this before...My sweetie LOVES to cook. It is a rare thing, indeed, when I get to make a meal. As much as I love The Yarn Project, my sweetie LOVES spending time in the kitchen. The kitchen is a shrine, cookware are tools of ritual, and food is the magic, made in the shrine.
March 24, is my sweetheart's birthday. And, yesterday, I FINALLY got around, to purchasing the perfect gift. I ordered it online (and of course, I had to spend big bucks on shipping, to guarantee it would be here in time.) I am SO friggin excited! I cannot wait, to see the look, this gift gets.
I got this super fancy recipe book. It is totally cool looking. It has a green leather spine, and the front and back are vinyl, with the image of corn, a tomato, and an onion. I saw this, and I KNEW it was the absolute PERFECT gift. A place to hold recipes...What kitchen whiz would not want this?
Yeah...This gift will get my some major good points.
(I just am HOPING that my sweetie does not decide to read this entry.)
So...
Yesterday, I went (as previously said) to Barnes & Noble. I looked at all the yarn books, and had to tell myself that I CANNOT take on, any more patterns! My will was strong, and I was able to leave, without purchasing a single pattern book. (Yeah...I am pretty friggin proud, over the display of self control, I exhibited.)
After a few more stores (which resulted in quite a bit of walking, without a single fall), my mom and I returned home.
I spent a while in the garden, and then, after a bath, I got ready to work with my yarn. I poured myself a glass of pre-mixed margarita, and went to my chaise, where my mitts waited.
Before I could start, my sweetheart walked by the chaise, and looked at me. A smile.
"Michael. Mitts. Margarita. Hah! The 3 M's!" We both got a little chuckle, out of that one. My baby then went to the kitchen, and I got to work, on the mitts.
Up until last night, the mitts had been a blast to make. (With the exception of casting on, for the first mitt.) I did not get bored making them. They did not turn into a monotonous project. Nope. I LOVED making them.
Last night, however, I got all of two rows done, before I grew impatient. I was on row 19. I had 10 more rows to do, then I had to cast off. And, I just wanted to be done! I wanted to hurry up, cast off, and sew the friggin mitt up the side. I could not wait, to wear them. And, being so close to done, I was getting the rush of excitement. You know what rush I am talking about. I know you do! It is that rush, that comes, when you are SO close, to finishing a project.
And, naturally, the more excited I got, about being so close to finishing, the longer those final rows seemed to take.
Finally, just after 9 pm, I had cast off, the mitt, from the loom.
I grabbed my tapestry needle, and stitched up the side. I weaved in the yarn tails, and...I WAS DONE!

Let me tell you...
THESE FRIGGIN MITTS ARE SO DAMNED COMFORTABLE!
I mean, I knew the yarn was soft. That was why I bought it. And, I knew the mitts would be comfortable. But, the comfort...Well, it exceeded my expectations. It is DIVINE! There really are not words, to explain the comfort, of these mitts. I wish I could explain, the feeling, of the mitts, as I put them on. I have sat here, trying. I have racked my brain, in the hopes of finding some way to describe the feeling, of the mitts. I just CANNOT do it.
I can say this. When I put them on last night, I let out a very loud sigh, of comfort. Then, I proclaimed: "I am not taking these off! I am going to sleep in them!"
And, I did!
Even as I type this post, I am wearing them. These mitts, have taken my hands to HEAVEN!
And today, I start my next project. Page 94, the illustration. Page 95 holds the pattern. Let work begin, on the Bliss Baby Blanket.
I can honestly say that I believe the sample piece, shown in the book, is worked in the UGLIEST shade of pink, that I have ever seen. It is this shade, that almost looks flesh tone. But, then again, it doesn't. It is UGLY. That is all there is to it. Even a color blind individual would detest this color.
I, thankfully, will not be using this horrible hue of pink. No sir! Nor will I be using the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Super Chunky, asked for, in the book. Instead, I will use some of the good old Red Heart yarn, that I took to collecting (like it was going out of style), when I first began The Yarn Project. I am choosing to let my yarnie wild side out, with this particular project. (That, and I am choosing to hold on to all my cash, and not buy more yarn, until my next project of the Ruana, which I am making for my mother, who has DEMANDED to have it in nice, EXPENSIVE yarn.)
The Bliss Baby Blanket is worked in 3 different panels. The 2 outer panels, are worked COMPLETELY in moss stitch. (Rows 1-2, you *knit 1, purl 1, and repeat from * to the end.) This middle row, has the top and bottom, worked in moss stitch, with the middle, being done in knit.
I have officially decided (as I wrote above), to go wild. Each of the three panels, will be worked, using two different colors, of Red Heart yarn. That means, 6 different colors, in 3 different rows. The end result...a bright, vibrant, IN YOUR FRIGGIN FACE, blanket.
I am TOTALLY excited. I love loud color combos. (I am sure you ALREADY know that, about me.)
This blanket is worked on the Yellow Knifty Knitter.
I will start one of the outer (moss stitch only) panels, today. I am planning on using a vibrant purple, and the same blue, I used for the fish. (Hey, I said it would be loud!)
Lastly...OH, I AM SO EXCITED!
This blanket will allow me to crochet again. YAY!!!
When I have stitched all the panels together, the pattern tells me to finish the blanket, by working a frame of single crochet. I am TOTALLY giddy, over this. (When I read over the pattern, last night, I giggled like a little school girl, when I saw that I would get to crochet.)
I have a few errands to run today. Then, I will do the daily garden work, and walk a few laps around the house. And then...let the fun, of working this blanket, begin.
I AM SO THRILLED, TO START THIS PROJECT!!!
Well, I should get going. My mom is waiting, and getting a bit snippy. She is not one to be kept waiting.
Happy looming, everyone!
