Loom Knitting. Shall We Begin!

Feb 09, 2011 11:33

First things first! I will start this entry off, by revealing the winner, of my little quiz. I will say, it was very close. Thank you to all who participated. It made me feel all loved. Hehe.
The winner of the beanie, with 8 correct answers, is suzyq01.blogspot.com. Congratulations. For the second place winner (who will be getting my premium virtual gift, to add to their profile.) Well...this is not something I expected. There is a tie, for this. Both inknbeans, and kjerlandsen, answered 7 correctly. Now, kjerlandsen answered first, and technically, got 7 correct. But, inknbeans, answered 7 correct, with more details. And so, both of you will be receiving a premium virtual gift.
Thank you again, for your participation.
Ok...So, yesterday...
Just as I said, I went to the Moose Lodge, to celebrate the successful completion, of the crochet part, of The Yarn Project. I was somewhat bummed, when I found out that my friend (who swore she would be there), told me she was out of town, and would not be able to make it. But, what the hell. I was there to celebrate, and I would do so. With, or without her. I ordered up pizzas, for all who were there, last night. And, I had a few glasses of wine. I played some pool. (Well...I ATTEMPTED to play some pool. As we all know, I don't exactly have good balance. And so, I would stumble a bit, every time, it was my turn. But, it was fun, nonetheless.) I grabbed my phone, from my pocket, and opened up the photo album, on it. I showed everyone the images, of things that I have crocheted. (Everyone agreed...The granny square sampler, was the best.)
At 8pm, my sweetie, and I, left the moose lodge.
"I'm proud of you, Michael. I really am." Those words, meant so much to me. My baby, continued. "I mean, look how much you have learned, since June 9. Look how much stuff you have made. Sure, you may be more than a bit obsessed. But, there's nothing wrong with that."
We got home, I watched TV, for a bit, and then, I retired, for the evening.
I was on my bed, listening to my dog, snore happily away. I was reading a Stephanie Pearl Mc-Phee book, and I thought to myself: 'This is it, then. This is what it feels like, to actually meet a goal. This is what it feels like, when you DON'T flake out, on something, but finish it, instead.' Again, there was that bittersweet feeling. (Truth be told, that feeling stayed with me, all of yesterday.) I am going to miss the crocheting part, of this Project.
I went to sleep.
This morning, I woke up, and was completely thrilled. I made a pot of coffee. And, as I drank my two mugs, I looked at my new workbook. 'Loom Knitting Primer: A Beginner's Guide To Knitting On A Loom With Over 30 Fun Projects.' I went into my room (careful not to wake my sweetheart), and grabbed my set of Knify-Knitter Long Loom Series looms. (I haven't even opened the box yet.) I brought this set out, and set it by my chaise.
I will be getting the round loom set, today.
It is weird feeling. Even though this is PART 2, of The Yarn Project, and I know that, it a new beginning. I feel the same way I did, when starting this Project, back in June. (Well...minus the flakiness.) I feel nervous. I feel excited. I feel the desire to learn.
It is a WONDERFUL feeling!
So...Here is how (I plan) for this loom knitting part, of The Yarn Project, to work. I will start off with the round looms. For the round looms, I am expected (according to this book), to learn the single stitch, double (and half) stitch, the chunky braid, and how to finish. So, I will start by learning these lessons. Then, I will work the 6 projects, that are created with round looms. After all 6 projects, are complete, I will move on to the long looms (the book refers to them as knitting boards). While working with these, the book will teach me: basic cast on, anchor yarn, basic stockinette rib stitch, simple stitch, and the figure "8" stitch. After learning these, I will work the 5 projects, worked with long looms.
Then, I will work a project, chosen by a reader. (Be sure to send some patterns, my way.)
It is going to be a complete BLAST, working with looms. I already can sense this.
One more thing, before I go.
I would like to say that I am very happy, to have made the friends, that I have made, through writing this blog. I really do look forward to reading all your comments. They make me smile. Thank you all, so much.
So...Part 2, of The Yarn Project.
Here we go!
