I woke up today, at 5 am. My dog was having a fit. He was barking his little chihuahua/terrier head off. He was using me as a human trampoline. Up and down, he bounced, knocking the breath out of me. Oh, if only he knew how close he was to being tossed to the other side of the room. I mean what could be so damned important to my little canine, at 5 in the friggin morning? He was persistant. He would not stop, until (royally pissed), I sat up, threw the blankets off of me, and climbed off my bed. By this time, my dog was on the floor, spinning around on his hind legs. (Normally, I find this quite funny. This morning, however...nothing was funny. NOTHING AT ALL!)
"Fine, you little bastard," I said, in a quiet, agitated voice, as I opened the door. My dog zoomed out of the room at warp speed. And, knowing that there would be no way I could manage to get myself back to sleep (thanks a lot, you little mutt!), I started my morning.
First, it was to the kitchen. If I was going to be up, before the sun, well then...I NEEDED COFFEE! So, I set that whole thing up. (Reminder to self: Prepare coffee machine at night. That way, come to following morning, you just need to press one simple button. You don't have to do a whole friggin collection of obstacles.) I then went to the living room, grabbed the remote, and flipped on the TV.
Here, you are about to find something out, about me. Are you ready? Ok...here it comes.
I LOVE the home shopping channels. I know, I know. But, what can I say? There is just something about them, I find great. Maybe it is the fact that, at 5 am, when I am still trying to wake up, the lady on the TV looks as though she has already downed about 25 cups of coffee, followed by 15 Red Bulls. Maybe it is the fact that they are so professional, at making you see complete junk, as something that you should pull out your credit card for, and type in the 800 number.
Anway, I got myself a cup of coffee, and settled back on the couch. Then, there it was. Something that caught my attention. HELLO!
A Yarn Holder. It was such a random little thing, to showcase on the network. It really did not go with the rest of the items they were showing.
"I crochet myself," the lady said. This, I found very funny. I mean, I am sure she does crochet (at least when she is trying to sell a yarn item.) Just like I am sure she sword fights, during the sword show. And, let us not forget...she probably owns every single piece of jewelry shown, during the jewelry extravaganza. Through my laughter, I sipped my coffee. I looked at this, remembering that I saw one at JoAnn. And, I have officially decided...I MUST HAVE IT. I mean, according to this TV lady, and to the packaging, it not only keeps yarn from rolling away from you, but it also prevents tangles. Talk about a Godsend.
There I was, in front of the TV. And, I looked to my left. Wouldn't you know. My wallet was on the couch, right beside me. I had been paying bills, on my computer, yesterday, sitting in the exact location. I forgot to take my wallet to my room last night.
I am very happy that the phone was out of arm's reach. If I had a phone near me, I would have caved. I would have been one of those people, dialing in, demanding one of these.
Instead, I shut the TV off.
Hours later, I had finished 3 cups of coffee, and looked at my dog. His little punk-ass was on the floor, asleep. God, how I was tempted to go and wake him up, and pester the living hell out of him. Instead, I went to my room, and found myself some yarn.
Okay....let's just stop right here, and talk about this for a moment.
I remember (because it wasn't that long ago), when yarn was in abundance, in the Leach home. I had a rather lager plastic cabinet, filled with nothing but yarn. And then, there were a few other hiding places. Yarn in every friggin color, I could ever dream of.
Then, the afghan happened.
And, this afghan has friggin wiped me out. The only still full skeins, in my plastic cabinet, are wool. As far as the acrylic. Well, what was once present, in abundant amounts, is now seen, only in small portions. Most of my colors have vanished, altogther. So long purple. Bye bye pink. Adios, yellow. White, red, tan, burgandy. Gone, gone...GONE!
I officially have all of 4 color tones, remaining. I have shades of green, some blues, my chocolate brown yarn, and, of course, black.
Needless to say, this last row will not have that many color combinations, in it. I have told myself that no more skeins of yarn will be purchased, until this afghan is done. So...that last row will be a collection of green, blue, brown, and black.
Boy...yarn goes away, rather quickly, doesn't it? It seemed like I had a friggin ton of it...then, bam...hardly any left, at all.
So, yesterday...
Well. I am finding this final row to be a bit of a beast, to work. I mean, up until now, nothing really had to be precise. I didn't have to really line all that much up. Now, all the pieces have to line up, completely flush. It is kind of a big pain in the butt. Everything has to be exact.
So...what did I do, yesterday?
well, I created (just because I felt like it), an extra granny square. Using my berry blue yarn, I set out to work. When I was finished with this square, I added it to my afghan, right next to a brown panel. Let me just say...I LOVE THIS COLOR COMBO. It is perfect. I added about 5 other squares, to my afghan, as well as to treble panels. There was a lot of work done, yesterday. I actually amazed myself, with all I accomplished.
This morning, before coming to my blog, I started yet another treble panel. This one is in sage green.
It is funny. I don't really have all that much more to do, on this afghan. And yet, I think it will take a bit of time to do what is left. I mean, just the fact that I have to measure every little piece now, so my last row lines up nice and flush. Well...that is proving to take a bit of time.
As for today...
Well. I am hoping to make a quick shopping trip. There is this store, where they have tons of boots. And, we have a coupon. What can I say...I have not given up my search. One day, I WILL FIND ME BOOTS.
After this shopping event (should it even happen), I will be spending my day, you guessed it...crocheting.
Well...that is it, for today. My yarn is calling to me.
Happy crocheting!
