The Perfect Blend

After only a few days of nice, chilly,  curl-up-with-a-cup-of-hot-chocolate weather, the heat of Summer decided to take over, again. Though yesterday was nowhere near the blistering heat of 106 (thank God), it was still a little bit warmer than I, personally, care for. My opinion (should you want to hear it)...once the cool weather comes, it should damn well stay. The heat of Summer has plagued us for too FRIGGIN long. I think we are due for the nice, cool air, of Autumn. Sure, the actual season doesn't begin, for another few weeks. But, what the hell...the weather could decide to jump the gun. Cool weather, I am personally sending you an invitation to my city!
With my mother's big, fabulous, BIRTHDAY CRUISE, quickly approaching, I would be quite happy to have the temperature settle somewhere in the high 70s. But, hey...that's just me.
Speaking of the cruise...
My mother told me, only days ago, that it is just not something she finds exciting. "I just don't get that excited, about much of anything, anymore." Needless to say, I saw this as a personal challenge. The mission: Give mom a birthday, that would excite, even the most unentusiatic of people.
So, I pulled out all the stops.
Part of me believes that, despite what she says now, the mere act of going up the ramp, and onto the ship, will excite the hell right out of her. She has NEVER been on a cruise, before. But, if that doesn't excite her...well, then...
I have a ton of stuff, which will be in her stateroom, waiting for her, as soon as she opens the door. A bouquet of purple daisies and baby's breath,  a "Bon Voyage" stateroom decoration kit. They literally stock-pile the room with streamers, and bright, shiny confetti. There will be champagne, along with a flute, for each of the people traveling with us. We will toast, right before the cruise begins.  Then, later in the cruise (on her actual birthday), she will get her very own birthday cake, and a memory box, where she can keep all of the photographs that we acquire on our vacation. Lastly, once on the ship, I will take care of one final thing, which I cannot do online. I will book her an appointment at the ship's salon, where she can be pampered. This will be scheduled, before her birthday dinner.
"I just don't get excited!" Yeah...we'll see about that!
Ok, now that I have that out of the way.
Time to talk yarn.
Yesterday, I am excited to say , I was, in fact, able to FINALLY complete row 3. YAY! It's about damn time. Of course, there was a visit from that nagging little voice, inside my head.
You think you are going to complete row 3, today. My God...are you FRIGGIN crazy. HAH! You won't complete it. There is no way, in hell.
Well, hate to tell you, personal doubt, but I proved you wrong, didn't I?
As I stitched the final piece of row 3, to the afghan, I could hear the Hallelujah Chorus, singing a jolly little tune. The yarn itself took on a Heavenly glow. And, as I tied off the final stitch, I felt this overwhelming sense of satisfaction. Row 3...I FRIGGIN took you down.
Needless to say, a celebratory beer was called for. I popped open the can, and took a delightful drink, of that crisp, biting beverage.
And, did I stop there?
Well...what do you think?
Hell no! I kept right on going.
Row 4 is now in the works.
So...I have come to a realization. It is not saomething that I am very happy about. But, whatever.
I may not, sad to say, finish this blanket, before the cruise. Now, that is not to say that I won't try, like hell. I will keep pluggin' away at it.
But, I am now over my foot pain (even though the wound is still present.) And, I must, along with my yarn work, work on walking.
One of my mother's wishes, as she told me, is to see me go, without using the wheelchair, while on the cruise. Needless to say, I have quite a bit of walking time, I need to get in, between now, and September 27. I need to work at strengthening my ankles, and calves.  I need to work at going, from the pace of a 3-legged turtle, to the pace of, well...a 4-legged turtle.
So, today, I will blend together working with yarn, and walking around. Ample time must be given to both. And, that time starts...
NOW!
Happy crocheting.
