First things first...
I wish that my foot would stop hurting. It has been days (which seems an eterity). My foot has been acting up...going on with twitch fits, burning...the wound is delivering more pain than I can tolerate. And, on top of all the pain, I am pissed off.
I had surgery, November 18, of last year. I should already be well past the recovery phase. I should now be in the learning-to-walk phase. And, if my original surgeon wasn't such an ass, I would not be in the pain that I am in, now. If he was a GOOD doctor, I would not still have a wound on my foot, close to one year after my surgery. But, apparently, he isn't a GOOD doctor. He is a total DICK!
Anyway...enough talk on this. I am finding that, as I write about it, I am focusing on it, and the pain is even worse. I just had to vent.
So, onto all things yarn!
Yesterday, I decided to search through my yarn cabinet. Boy, oh boy! What a FRIGGIN FIBER MESS! I swear, it was bad. I think that, once a skein finds its way to this cabinet, it automatically starts to unwind itself. Just a week ago, I put a neatly wound skein of yellow yarn, into this cabinet. Yesterday, that skein was no more. Now, it was a yellow mess...tangled up with a blue mess, and a red mess, and a white mess. As I looked at this, and thought to myself: Oh, boy! It looks like I have a problem. I know I am going to have to deal with this. I will have to take all my yarn, and untangle it. Then, I will have to spend the time (which I really don't have), rolling it into balls. One day, this will be unavoidable. Yes...one day...
Yesterday was NOT that day.
So, I fished around in my cabinet, until I found three fun colors, that were not a tangled up YARN DISASTER! Then, with these three yarns, I set out, to make my granny.
The granny that got worked yesterday, was lucky granny 97. In the stitch guide, two stitches can be found: the beginning popcorn, and the popcorn. No biggie...these stitches are found in a good number of the squares, I have already made. I fear the popcorn, no more. Bring on the popcorn! This square is done, using 4 rounds. And, the sample in the book shows the square worked in brown, gold, green, and blue, in that order. The brown and gold create this sunflower. Sure, it is pretty. Out of all the sample squares, seen in this book, this one is, quite possibly, the one with the best FLAIR.
But, I still had to shake things up.
As mentioned above, I used three colors: brown, variegated, and frosty green.
I went to face this square, fully confident in myself. Bring it, Granny!
Oh, she brought it, alright.
Once again, I need to remind myself to NEVER be cocky, when working with yarn. Cocky crocheting can (and usually does) have DEVASTATING results.
That is right, my friends. I had to attempt this granny, twice.
The first time, completely screwed up. I was cocky...and I miscounted. Granny showed me, who was boss. I was, as you can imagine, not happy, when I realized this, and had to start the whole damn square, ALL OVER AGAIN! As I undid my work, I took full advantage of the fact that I was home, alone. I screamed. Not just any weak scream. This scream could have been used in a horror movie audition. After this loud, echoing scream, I calmed myself (with a beer, of course.) Then, I went back to the granny.
Having been removed from my COCKY pedastal, I went into round two of the Granny War, with a since of trepidation.
And, time two, the granny worked well, with me.
I am very please with how this particular square turned out. I think you may like it, too.
www.flickr.com/photos/theyarnproject/4904126313/So, where am I at now, with all my little grannies?
Glad you asked!
As I write this entry, I have worked 43, of the 50 grannies, I set out to make. Yay! That means 7 more remain. They are grannies: 43, 48, 50, 80, 91, 92, and 97. I cannot believe it. Only a few more grannies to visit. (Good thing, too. My poor book is threatening to fall apart. I think that it is in DESPERATE need of retirement. It has worked hard!)
It is weird. Being so close to finishing these 50 squares...I am shock. I am happy about it. But, it is kind of bittersweet. I may be a freak, I admit it. But, finishing projects usually leaves me a little sad. Oh well...I still get to work with them, a bit longer. After all, they have to be worked into an afghan, right?
Anyway...
After finishing my square, I moved on to my Mystery Project. Time for another little hint. (Are you still guessing?)
Hint 11: A special time of year...at least, to me.
Yesterday, this project tested my patience, once again. It looked like it was going to be another day of unWORKING this project. The time with this project started off bad. The yarn got stuck, again...and again, one row was undone.
But, after this single disaster, everything settled down. I worked the remainder of my hour, in peace. (God, I cannot wait to be finished with this project. I am so stoked about it. I CANNOT wait to show you guys!!!)
Last...
The Broomstick Lace Pillow.
Row 2 of the second half, done. And, it is starting to size up with the first half, now. Yay...happy dance!
After playing around with these projects, I collected the shawl. I stuck it in a box, and wrapped it up, all nice and pretty. I figure, if it is wrapped, my mom cannot POSSIBLY see it. Sure, she will see the gift box, but that is it.
I swear...my mom has become just plain SNEAKY! She will find any little excuse to venture into my room. Oh, you need to turn your fan off (when it is over 100 degrees), or, I was just looking for something. Gee...I wonder what that something, could be? Hmmm!
It is, I will admit, good to see her so excited about it. I just hope it lives up to the hype.
Well, anyway...I should be off. My mom is telling me a trip to JoAnn's, is in our future, today. I think I may have to give in, today...I doubt I could say "NO!" to yarn, two times, in a row!
Anyway...
Happy crocheting!
