Summary: This Jonghyun was a strange boy.
-
Jinki - wearing only an oversized jersey and shorts - sat on the bed, bouncing lightly as he held his left hand out in front of him, staring at the simple, plastic band that hugged his pinky finger; he always smiled whenever he remembered how he got the ring, the promises that it carried.
-
A small child sat on a wooden, aged swing as he stared at the grass. Random spots were bright green, others were brown and the rest was just a pale green. There were pretty flowers growing from the mass of green, but they were different colours. Blue, red, pink, white, all sorts of colours, but none were green like the grass they grew from. The child wondered about the strange colours as another small figure approached him. The seated child looked up to find equally curious eyes staring down at him. After a while, the child seated on the swing became nervous under the other's unwavering stare and just as he made to leave, the child with the big, curious eyes stopped him with a firm grip on his wrist.
“Um... what's wrong..?” The quiet boy asked, still uncomfortable under the other's gaze. Why was the other here gripping his wrist when he could be playing with all those kids who were waiting for him at the sandbox?
“You... you're Jinki hyung, right?” the curious boy asked. Jinki was taken aback, he didn't think anyone knew his name much less his face, was this another prank? Jinki nodded, warily. The other smiled a little, it was bright, the first bright smile Jinki had ever seen directed towards him from any child in this place. Jinki wanted to smile to but he didn't, this could still be a prank, he told himself. Jinki may have been four, but that didn't make him stupid. “I'm Jonghyun, nice to meet you!” the shorter boy released Jinki's wrist, only to grab his hand and begin shaking it.
“Um, nice to meet you...” Jinki smiled a little, prank or not, this was the nicest anyone aside from an adult had ever been to him. When their hands began to hurt they let go. Jonghyun kept smiling at him.
“Do you want to play with me?” The short boy asked. Jinki looked at him, surprised, but it seemed as though Jonghyun really was asking him if they could play together. Jinki nodded a bit before Jonghyun grabbed his hand and ran off with him. That was the first time Jinki had ever had fun with someone around his age.
This Jonghyun was a strange boy.
-
After about a week of playing together with Jonghyun, Jinki had learnt a lot about the other. He knew that Jonghyun liked dogs - and that he was rather puppy-like himself - he knew that Jonghyun did not like sweet things, he knew he was older than Jonghyun by about four months - their teacher said so - and he knew that Jonghyun thought of Jinki as a bunny even though Jinki had told Jonghyun that he would rather be compared to a penguin. Jonghyun had just stared at him before insisting that Jinki was more like a bunny.
Jonghyun kept getting stranger and stranger, Jinki thought as he ate his snack.
-
Jonghyun wanted to ask Jinki a question ever since he had first talked to him but he had put it off because he wanted to become friends with Jinki first. Now, two weeks after they first played together, Jonghyun had decided he would ask his hyung the question. Jonghyun walked up to Jinki who was sitting on the same swing he always sat on.
“Hyung?” Jonghyun asked carefully, he may be a kid but he knows that when you step on someone's toes it'll hurt that person - it's almost the same with words. Jinki looked up, a smile spreading his lips as he saw his friend standing there. Jinki stood up, acknowledging Jonghyun with a nod. “Can I ask you a question?” Jinki gave him a look - it was confused - but he answered 'yes' anyway. Jonghyun took a deep breath and then, “Why are you always here?” Jinki didn't understand.
“What? Um, well... we go to school here, so...”
“No, hyung, what I meant was; why are you always here, by yourself on this swing?” Jonghyun asked as he pointed from the floor to the swing to Jinki while the elder's eyes followed his movements.
“Well... no one wants to play with me... so I come here.” Jinki said, idly letting his fingers play with each other, he had learnt it was a good way to keep yourself distracted.
“Alone..?” Jonghyun asked, and Jinki nodded. Jonghyun didn't like the answer, he knew he hated being alone so he was sure Jinki didn't like it either. Jonghyun asked, “Is hyung always alone?” There was a slight pause before Jinki nodded and Jonghyun really didn't like that answer. Jonghyun didn't want his hyung to be alone. Jinki was a nice person, he would share and play with Jonghyun and he was never mean.
Jonghyun didn't want his hyung to be alone, not when Jonghyun was here.
Then, the little boy remembered something.
“Wait here!” Jonghyun exclaimed as he held his hands out and patted the air for emphasis before he ran off. Jinki stood there quietly, his hands behind his back as he rocked on his heels. He looked at the pretty flowers, what did Jonghyun go for? After a little while Jinki's feet were beginning to hurt so he was going to sit down but then Jonghyun came running back to Jinki.
Jonghyun grabbed Jinki's left hand before he stuffed his own hand into his pocket and drew out a plastic, pink ring. He took Jinki's ring finger and carefully slid the little band onto it. Jonghyun let go of Jinki's hand and the elder stared at the ring, confused. Jonghyun took both of Jinki's hands into both of his and he sincerely told the elder,
“I'll marry you! I'll marry you and that way, we'll always be together! You won't be alone any more because this way I'll always be with you!” Jonghyun smiled. Jinki blushed a little, he had heard of getting married before but his umma always told him that the boy will give the girl a ring when they are in love, then they could get married.
“You'll marry me?” Jinki questioned, Jonghyun nodded. “Does that mean that I'll be your wife? And that we'll love each other like how umma and appa do?” Jonghyun looked thoughtful for a moment, pushing out his bottom lip and poking it with his finger before he quickly exclaimed,
“Yup! You and I will get married! You'll be the umma and I'll be the appa! The appa is supposed to love and protect the umma, that's what my appa said! So I'll be appa so I can protect and stay with you!” Jonghyun grinned and Jinki couldn't help but smile back.
They held hands for the first time, not knowing it to mean anything else aside from agreeing with each other. The walked through the playground telling everyone they were going to get married, some kids asked them when and how while others just clapped for them.
“Jonghyun ah?”
“Yeah hyung?”
“Promise you'll stay with me?”
“Of course!” Jonghyun smiled brightly at Jinki as he linked their pinkies and held them up for Jinki to see. “Cross my heart, hope to die, eat a thousand needles if I lie, pinky promise!” Jinki had joined in singing the promise at the second line and they grinned at each other.
“Now, I have to stay and get married to you or I will die!” Jonghyun said dramatically as he hugged Jinki. Jinki wrapped his arms around the younger boy.
Jonghyun really was strange but Jinki didn't think that was bad.

Jinki grinned as he let himself fall back onto the bed. Memories and reminiscence; Jinki never thought he would enjoy these things. He closed his eyes and just lay there thinking of that memory over and over again. He didn't hear when the door opened or when footsteps made their way over to the bed. He only noticed the other's presence when the bed sunk and he felt someone's warm breath against his face followed by lips pressing themselves onto his forehead. He smiled and opened his eyes, being greeted with the image of his lover smiling down at him. Jinki wrapped his arms around Jonghyun's neck and pulled him closer, so much so that their noses were touching.
“Hey, Jinki ah...” Jonghyun was still smiling and Jinki thought things couldn't become any more perfect.
“Hmm?” Jinki hummed in reply. He could feel Jonghyun's lips smiling against his own.
“Marry me, will you?” Jonghyun said before he caressed Jinki's lips with his own, the elder moving with him. Jonghyun didn't have to wait for an answer, he had already gotten it - seventeen years ago. They parted and Jinki smiled as he pecked Jonghyun's cheek before bringing his left hand to linger between their faces and he proceeded to show Jonghyun the little pink band - the symbol of their union and of Jinki's acceptance. Jonghyun pulled out a ring from his pocket, just like he did so many years ago, and slipped it onto Jinki's left ring finger, just like a beautiful memory.
“Say yes again? Just for me?” Jonghyun asked lowering himself onto Jinki again. Jinki smiled and pulled Jonghyun closer. Now, surely, everything was perfect.
“Yes.”

A/N: I really like how this came out. I had this idea for a while and I finally wrote it. The shameless amounts of fluff I put in, I made it too painfully obvious yet I regret nothing. I feel so happy right now~! ^_^
