there's a brand new name in town
hanging out next to
a photo of a child
being held together by paper clips
the shattered fragments of teeth and flesh
that were once held to the inside of his mouth
freeze to his face in the cold of the night

such strange professions
predict a series of visible consequences
drawn out across the horizon
like tiny pillboxes crumbling
in the expanding glow of daylight.
