So I popped back to Earth to see the upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider. CERN is surprisingly tetchy about people poking about, you know. Who wouldn've guessed? Anyhow - as soon as I found a way into the tunnel, I found a loose dipole magnet. As soon as I aligned that, they uh... fired up the Collider. Luckily it didn't work, so I didn't get ( Read more... )

You don't believe in the inimitable and immutably triumphant spirit of humankind, then? 'Cos you're human yourself, are you not?

Ehm... I am not sure. Yes, I am just a regular human. Is that a good thing, what you said there? Do you always talk like that?

Ooooh yes, it's a brilliant thing!

...and yes. My, er, friends tell me I have a habit of going on.

Well, sorry I couldn't follow you there. I am not that smart, or so they say. I am better at working with my hands. I'm Xander Harris, btw. Just call me Xander.

Ah, don't fret, Xander - fantastic name by the way. Lots to be said for a good name. I'm the Doctor, anyway. Nice to meet you!

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh! Yes. I'm sure you're quite intelligent. Most people, I've found, vastly underestimate themselves.

Uh... Thanks. It is Alexander really, but I have been called Xander my entire life. Your only called the Doctor? Thats kinda weird.

Well, I guess. I have seen and done lots, so some off it must have rubbed off...

Yes, well, a name is just a name, yeah? I have a... mate called Rose, and that's an odd name if you think of it.

Ah, yes, the inimitable knowledge instilled in a traveller. I've done a bit of that myself, actually.

Traveler? Yeah, sure. I have done my fair share of traveling. Think I have rounded Africa more ways then I can count, actually. Your a traveler to?

Africa! Oh, what a terrific country! So many traditions there you just dont get anyplace else - well, save for Ambdemon. That planet is like Nairobi all over again. I do seem to gravitate toward England, of course, but Africa... 's just lovely.

Yup! Traveller, wanderer, searcher, and seeker. 'S a thrilling life, yeah?

Yeah. I'll tell you one thing, your not bored in Africa. Learned alot there. Also... Did you just say you traveled between planets?!??

O.... K.... It is a bit... Mind-boggling. Not that I haven't read about it. Science Fiction is something I always liked. But it was fiction. Here, in Desai, it is a bit harder to keep track off... stuff.... Sorry. I ramble. But it is a bit hard for a regular guy like me wrap my mind around.

Oh, no worries, yeah? I quite understand. Time travel and alternate realities and multiple universes and all that - I suppose had I not been brought up on them to serve as something a guardian of Time, I'd probably have a bit of trouble, er, seeing the forest for the trees. In fact, there were whole groups on my planet who weren't given the same knowledge the Time Lords possessed. They had some inkling of what was beyond the atmosphere, of course, but not a total view. So... it's not so hard to believe people find my life rather fantastic and beyond belief.

You know... Talking like that, your kinda losing me... I am glad to hear I am not the only one not in the know, though.
