((OOC: A bit early to be coming home from work, I know, but I'm not sure how limited my time will be today. >.> His darling June Cleaver of a wife is, of course, charmedillusion.))
[She dutifully takes his coat and hangs it up neatly in the closet. She also takes the opportunity to quickly check herself in the mirror, self-consciously patting her glorious, glossy ringlets (perfectly curled, even though she couldn't do a thing with it this morning). But now she's left him alone for far too long, so she returns to the living room. Perching herself on the armrest of his chair, she smiles down at him adoringly.]
Dinner is almost ready - I made your favorite dessert! - so just relax and I'll tell you about my day.
[She smiles in response, leaning forward so she can rest her hand on his shoulder fondly, noticing how tense he is - poor darling! - after his long day.]
Well! After I cleared up the breakfast dishes, vacuumed, dusted the furniture, and left a load of clothes to wash, Rose stopped by so we could make cookies for all the children in the building. That was when I realized the drapes in the dining room - have you noticed them recently? - are so thoroughly drab, they don't at all complement the rest of the apartment. So I decided to replace them, only Rose and I couldn't find a thing in the stores, so I picked out some material and made the new drapes myself! After I finished sewing them, I had just enough time to stop by and have a cup of tea with dear Mrs. Hawkins before coming home again to get dinner ready.
[She pauses, searching his expression and waiting for his approval, but his query makes her smile turn reproachful.]Darling! You don't hate bridge as much as you pretend to. All the same, there isn't a game scheduled
( ... )
[He half-listens, making the appropriate mm-hmm, please continue noises where necessary...because Sarah's a pip, but he doesn't think her days are as fascinating as she believes them to be.
...But now she's displeased, and it's time to charm his way out of trouble and resist the urge to reply that bridge is a game for finks and why doesn't she just invite her girlfriends over for a nice game of mah-jongg while he goes out for a while.]
Of course, of course. And I'm sure you did the drapes up beautifully. My Sarah's got an eye for colour.
...What's this engagement tonight?
((OOC: The best part is how I didn't actually consider the canonical implications--it just sounded delish at the moment. XD))
Oh! While I was out shopping, I picked up a new frame for the photograph you have in the bedroom - we really can't just leave it there to get crinkled.
[She leaves the living room just to take dinner out of the oven, calling over her shoulder to him.]
I'll check the calendar - we're expected at somewhere tonight. Was it someone at the office, dear, or one of our friends?
[ooc: I applaud your amazing skills. I thought for sure it was a nod to canon.]
[She sets the dinner - potato and leek tart, lamb chops, and lightly seasoned greens - on the table as she answers him, pausing every now and then to admire the result of all her hard but most lovingly done work.]
Oh, how nice. Don't you think a trip like that would be nice? Wouldn't it be wonderful if you could take some time off work?
[She comes back to smile for the thousandth time as she links her arm through his to lead him to the dining room.]
Or we could do something ourselves tonight and pretend we're on vacation.

So I've stories of your day as well as peach cobbler?
[Pause, slight furrowing of the brow, as it seems almost too good to be true for a tired office man.]

[When she's off to get dinner, he's up to pour himself a gin and tonic, calling back to her after a sip of his drink.]
Something with the Petersons? Frank's been going on about the slides from their trip...to Myrtle Beach.
((OOC: ...Well, it is now? :D))

[She gets a kiss on the top of the head for good measure as they head toward the dinner table.]
