One that'll cost me a friggen mint coz the damn thing's 14 years old.
Mind, in those 14 years this is the ONLY break down it's had.
The Water Pump broke this morning whilst I was on my merry way to work. I got to the highway turn off roundabout about 5kms from home when the temp guage jumped from 1/4 to just over 1/2 in 3 seconds and the oil in the engine started to smell. I chucked a U-e and managed to make it home with the temp 5mm off the white line before the red zone. She didn't stall from overheating so I think the engine will be alright. I even opened the bonnet to the freezing morning air to cool it down faster.
At least I now know what was making that noise under the hood for the last 6 months. Of course I didn't know it was the water pump when I managed to get the Sonata home without the engine stalling, So I spent all day at work tearing my hair out wondering if i'd managed to kill my step-grandfather's car. One that is precious to my Garma and now even more so since Gar died.
Still, know it's only the pump and not the whole engine doesn't make me feel any better and I can't really post about it on facebook because Gilda will go ape and I will go bat-shit at her, short of actually flying to Perth and giving her a sharp slap to the face and telling her to wake up and realise that she's not the centre of the universe. But let's not go there... I could go on and on about what I'd love to say to her face if she actually bloody called me anymore (I think that FB argument has upset her. not that I mind, there's less of her in my life and I don't care. Family, can't pick 'em. Wouldn't worry me so much if I didn't love her, I don't think.)
Mum and Dad have purchased, outright, a new Hyundai i30, BWV 45J. I think I'll call it Bravo Whiskey. They paid for it today and got to take it home today, so I can drive the Rio (Butt-scoot or Balrog depending on who you ask. To me it feels like I'm butt-scooting when i drive it because it's so low) while they're in Ipswich for the weekend ripping out tiles and things from Garma's flooded out bathroom and pulling out warped fibro walls (confirmed by a build to be Asbestos free). I'll be using the damn thing until Wednesday when the Sonata goes in for it's repair, service and wheel alignment. FINALLY! Something had to break before the mechanic could get it in, figures. So I should, in theory, be able to drive Levy (Sonata Levant, Levy = short for Leviathan Garma named her, not me) on Thursday, when the Rio goes in for it's service.
Muchos Gracias to my Dad for rolling out of bed at 5:40 am and driving me to work when I was a bucket of frayed nerves from that, ever so exciting over-heated trip back to the house.
