in midnights children, rushdie keeps referring to a man as having a problem with djinn bottles (he's an alchoholic). It's pretty awexome.

my roommate's professor for post-colonial lit (in which he is reading midnight's c. coincidentally) is thinking about publishing a book on djinns! apparently, though, he makes a distinction between genies, jinnis (or some other middle category, i ferget) and djinns.
