Buy Your Glasses Online and Save!
/
Shopping for eyeglasses online is for the people who want to get a pair of glasses with non-reflective coating for 20.00$.  (9$ for the glasses, 6$ for the non-reflective coating, and 5$ Shipping and Handling on Average.)
/
For my first pair of eyeglasses in 2009 I paid 156$ for my frames at the doctor, and 75$ for non-reflective coating and I was getting a 25% discount. THAT IS OUTRAGEOUS!
/
Furthermore the last two pairs of glasses I purchased from the doctor in June 2014 were closer to the 300$ range- each. But I wanted “fashion” glasses. Well guess what? My Koali KO6663K - designer name brand eyeglasses have the paint peeling off of them. I paid 215$ for those frames not including the cost for lenses and non-reflective coating. None of my 5-10$ pairs of glasses have ever had that issue. Do I regret my purchase? Oh hell yes.

To shop online you will need:
· Your current Prescription from your eye doctor
· Your PD (Pupillary Distance/distance between your pupils in Millimeters)
· Your head size (small, medium, or large) *You can guess but most people are medium.
· Your up-loadable picture of yourself not wearing glasses (*optional I didn’t use a photo for the first two years.)
/

To buy glasses online you need a current prescription and your pupillary distance. Your PD or pupillary distance is the distance between your pupils or the black center of your eyes. It is important to have this information for ordering online. For adults it is usually somewhere between 54-65 millimeters.  This number isn’t found by your doctor it is actually the eyeglasses sales rep who finds that information by measuring your face. I recommend you do try on glasses at the doctor’s office to see what style fits your face and you can politely ask for your PD. I have purchases at least three pairs of my glasses at the doctor’s office even though I knew I was getting gouged because I really wanted name brand designer glasses and I had the money to pay more. So don’t be afraid to look at the name brand designs there might be something there you really want and are willing to pay much more for.

Here is more info on how to get your pupillary distance at home.

Ok so you have your prescription and your PD but you don't want to buy a pair of glasses for 250$. This is understandable. If you have a normal script you might consider buying glasses off the internet like I do. It is MUCH cheaper and very convenient to get glasses off the net. Even if you don’t have a normal prescription and have complicated glasses I still encourage you to look at the websites online and price out a pair. Most of the people who actually have looked have saved upwards of 200$ buying online.
/
Also if you are at all like me you might need a prescription pair of sunglasses for driving. Maybe you just need your glasses for reading. And maybe you are the type of person who wants five pairs of glasses so you can change your style as needed. (LARPers, how cool is it to get a pair to go with a character? For 10$, I would say, VERY COOL.)
/
Now you go to the website, pick out a pair you like that you think will look good on you. I recommend loading the picture of yourself and using the “Try On” tools that most websites have to check the frames to see if they look good on you.
/
To save the most I recommend getting yourself on the websites mailing lists so you can be informed of sales or “buy one get one free” offers.

The following are various online retailers I have tried.

Some of you will wonder if this is really a good idea. I mean you go to a doctor to get your prescription, right? You might be concerned that you are not getting the right prescription or that online retailers are not reliable.
/
These are logical concerns, but I have not had any issues.
/
I have been buying prescription eyeglasses from online retailers since 2009. I have had only one bad experience and in that case I just sent the glasses back. I had another experience where the glasses were not the color shown in the picture but it was pointed out that the color was written down so they gave me 50% off my next pair. I was satisfied both times with the resolution. My optometrist’s office checks my glasses prescription when I go in and found no errors. I also have found no errors. (Unlike friends who have gone home with the wrong prescription from Lens Crafters!)
/
I am a fan of getting a deal, and I recommend if you are at all concerned about the prescription being correct, get your eye doctor to check your new glasses for you. (I go to Rocky Mountain Eye Center and they check mine when I get my new prescription.) If there is a problem with the glasses you got online please don't hesitate to contact your dealer and give them a chance to make it right. Yes, bad transactions happen but a professional will respond to your issue promptly and replace the glasses quickly.
Thanks for reading! I hope you find some nice quality affordable glasses.

Check out my collection of glasses. Notice I only have two pairs of sunglasses because my other perscription sunglasses are in my car or my bookbag. Only about 5 pairs of these are in my current perscription. My plan is to sort through them and save my favorites and get them relensed. More about that later.
