Megan from Decoy helped get me into a show at the K12 & TEJAS Gallery in Dayton. I made a new(ish) display for Gaframor, and made a brand new painting to premier. That painting is good, and caused me to stay up until well past 3am for four consecutive days. The show will be up for the entire month of September, and the opening is tomorrow. I'm pretty excited, a little nervous because imposter syndrome is a thing, but mostly I'm happy just to get my stuff out there.
September is going to be crazy.
The 10th through 17th I'm on vacation from Decoy so that I can focus on my art. I'll be needle felting pretty much all day every day.
On the 15th I help Henrique with makeup on his TV series, so I also need to squeeze in practicing before then - again, as much as possible whenever possible. (I also need to research more tools and supplies since the show is buying it all.)
On the 16th I'm going to a low-key art fair with Teresa. We're going to use that as a practice run for the next day. I don't expect to sell much but I just want to work the cobwebs out of my salesmanship.
That evening I help with makeup some more. It's all happening after dark so I expect to not sleep much.
September 17th is ArtFest - the big sale for this fall. Teresa, Megan, and myself are all sharing a booth which is nice because it's cut all our costs drastically and helps me because I won't need as much stock. I'm still nervous about having enough to sell, but that's why I'm trying out so many new, simple projects.
After that I immediately start prepping for my other sales at the end of the year.
Between now and the 17th I have to make a ton of lil' buddies - get into contact with a shop about selling my work. Make a ton of felt soap and felt dryer balls. Also make a ton of moss jars. Get into contact with a printer to have posters and post cards made, and try to maintain some semblance of a social life.
I'm also really looking forward to the working vacation. Not only will it give me some much-needed time away from Decoy, it'll also give me a chance to test myself at the self-employed life: it'll allow me to train myself on staying motivated each day, on my own, and test my limits of artistic endurance.
This next month won't be easy, but then again neither has this past summer. All things considered, I think I'm ready to take it on.
