I got hit with a SalmonBot last night. Confused the heck outta me, and that’s pretty much it’s intention. There’s some program that these guys developed to connect people via AIM. The bots search the recently updated pages of web sites (LiveJournal, Xanga, DeviantArt, etc.) to find screen names and connect random people.
So If you get hit, don’t worry, it’s anonymous. The message comes from a screen name that has “Salmon” in it. I got hit with “ResistantSalmon” last night, and in turn I was “OrnerySalmon” to the other person. It kinda freaked me out at first, wondering who in the heck was messing with me. But I had a short conversation with an American who is currently an exchange student over in Toyko.
