so we beat it out of cheyenne, wyoming as soon as we could, that place was a mess...
today we took the colorado route, we stopped just before denver in the city of Loveland, CO at a barnes and noble at which we bought our second book on tape, and got coffee and some delicious sandwiches for sunday brunch. we drove through denver which is a really great city, with five lane highways, something we hadn't seen since before philly. it was extremely refreshing to see after seeing nothing but miles upon miles of corn.
after denver we headed for the rockies, and took two tours of the mountains, we took the regular highway through the mountains, where all the big ski resorts like steamboat springs are. we drove through the glenwood canyon and it was just rocks and trees on all sides, it was so amazing. the mountains were absolutely gorgeous. i've never seen such breathtaking sights as those mountains until we got to the san juan mountain range just south of the rockies, we took that route as well because we wanted to see more mountains and when we got to the route the sun was starting to begin it's descent behind the big hills but not before we got to see the intense and awe inspiring views. the sun was setting on the mountains and the colors were intensified and reflected and just...wow. i fell in love with the mountains of colorado today, they make mount washington look like a small hill. while i was in love with the mountains, the highway itself at times was absolutely terrifying, we would look to the side and just see steep drop-offs that were dizzyingly scary.
i don't even know how to describe the mountains in a way that would help you imagine what it could look like if you have never seen them, we took so many pictures today, you'll have to see them when we post them to understand.
tomorrow it's on to even bigger sights, the grand canyon! if today's sights were as amazing as they were i can only imagine what the canyon will look like, i'm sure we'll be blown away by the beauty and immensity and intensity of it all.
peace and love.
