Oh, wow. Perfect. I can so see this being Mal's advice to her, even beyond "keep the crew together and keep Serenity flying." And of course he doesn't know what the hell to say to Inara, because he never did. And somehow, "I'll see you when it's time" is exactly, exactly right.

I toyed with several different things he could say to Inara, but honestly? He'd cop out. He just would, and he'd rely on Zoe to make it right.

wonderful mal voice and rather excellent in general. makes me want to ask "what's coming mal?!" but obviously he is dead and this is a fairly futile question. love the advice about avoiding jayne's cooking after all the proper thoughtful, serious advice, which is very firefly and very mal.

lovely inara icon, btw. i know it would ruin it, but i'm still sad that mal/inara never saw the light of excplicit canon.

you should write more firefly fic *nods*

I'm with you on the Mal/Inara. I do love that she stayed on Serenity at the end of the movie.

I came here from the dead letter variations page...and and and this was really really good. Very IC for me, and made me get a little teary, which is beyond pathetic.

Oh wow, this is great. Perfect Mal voice! I love all of it, especially the stuff about Jayne, and copping out of deciding what to say to Inara.
