From the CNN interview with Nancy Pelosi:
"What we are saying is, Mr. President, free our oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve," Pelosi said. "We're saying, let's take 10 percent of that, which has been paid for by the American taxpayer, and use that to put on the market so that we increase supply, reduce price."
10 Percent of 700,000,000 barrels is 70 million.
We produce, domestically, 5 million barrels a day... and we consume 20 million per day.
70 Million barrels, assuming they could be injected into the equation at ZERO cost, could reduce the cost of a gallon of gas:
...to Last Years $3 (Mixed 1:3): 14 Days
...to The Pre-Bush $1.40 (mixed 13:7): 5 and a half days.
...to Free, if we just used it... 3 and a half days
